Looks like you might get close to having a weiner roast lol....

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

You come up with the dopest pipes. I dig your building style.

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

Thats a nice hand warmer you got there, this build is looking dope.

Far too late but I like circuit pipes on gilas

Further widens the powerband that the reeds give ya

I'm also like 2x the weight of most of you so maybe that only matters to me

maitland's like 7 foot tall is all

i have a proma circuit on my gila za50 and considered going that way with this, but i kinda wanted something with a little more top. the za is geared out, but still takes off super quick and is fast as heck thanks to the 2 speed, this i'll probably have to pedal a bit to get going, but i have that big pedal gear so i hope it works out.

glad everyone's digging the build. i should get to ride it soon, i think, and then we'll see if all this was worth it haha

I put off rebuilding the carbs forever, but got to it today. They all good to go. 62 jet in both carbs, same slides and same emulsion tubes. Should be a good place to start tuning.

Sorting the throttle cables now and then all that's left is getting a woodruff key for the flywheel and figuring out what the heck to do about the starting clutch lever.

Super close to finally firing this up!

What throttle cable are you using? 2to1? Or a double cable throttle assembly?

1 into 2, tho it's gonna be tricky to set up. I'll get pictures when I put it together

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

Brandon Weiss (Detective brandon to you) /

You should do double throttles, one on each grip. Who needs handbrakes with that sick coaster brake?

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

up shits creek /

braking taken care of with the push backwards style bicycle brakes!

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

I wonder if an yamaha rd style cable setup would work good. Or just a good old fashion snowmobile cable.

This might work and it's only 12 bucks to boot :

Nice find! That very well may work!

that is a great find! i already have this cable splitter tho - https://www.treatland.tv/domino-cable-splitter-p/domino-cable-splitter-1068.86.htm

and i've made the 3 short cables to use it. i just have to modify it a bit in order to install the tiny knarps inside the unit for the two lower cables. it's gonna be a pain in the ass, but once it's done it should work great.

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

You know your stuff and.just asking if a possible way to make the cable junction from the oil injection work in some way ? I really love what you.are doing ..reminds me of ny younger days when i just had to try to change things to see if it would work .keep it going i am really enjoying keeping up with this

"domino throttle cable splitter.. yeah, now you can run two carbs on your moped and still use one throttle!" got me thinking...

why not use two throttles for total control?

I suggested that a few posts up, would be so rad. Twist 1 for eco mode, twist both for sport mode

Or, you use the 1 into 2 like that or from something else - i've got a few around from different motorcycles ot doesnt the mb5 also have a split to simultaneously open oiler? I forget where that came from.

ANYWAY my point was it'd be neat if you could stagger them so one opens before the other, that'd have the same eco/sport effectively but progressive. Like a progressive 2 barrel carb on a car

Like a quadrajet! Exactly

Maybe a teeny tiny accelerator pump too haha

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

I would have to figure out springs and things and whatnots to make that work, way too much of a rigamarole for what I'm trying to do haha.

double throttles would be a nightmare, the left side would be a push throttle instead of a pull. Plus, not having suspension, this thing's already gonna be a handful to hold onto.

I'm loving all the feedback, though!

lol indian burn the handlebars for power

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

I'm trying to wrap my head around this progressive throttle idea. Since I'm doing a similar dual intake I'm happy to explore the idea.

Having a lot of trouble visualizing how this might work. Could anyone share a reference or a photo of something that already does this.

UNLESS, one carb hooks to a. regular throttle. Second carb on a thumb throttle? Same hand, same side? Or maybe opposite the twist throttle?

hmm.. 2 cables, first is low end. 2nd is top end, with built in cable slack. The 2nd cable tightens at half throttle. Use a cam/eccentric circle for the top end cable so the slide opens fully.

I guess both cables would need a cam so the low-end cable can continue to pull after the slide is all the way open.

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

ᴛᴇʀʀʏ ᴅᴇᴀɴ /
dean OP

^ yup, something like that would work best. springs to keep cable slack under control, pivoting cams of some sort, levers. super fun to think about, but would be a nightmare to try and build and have it work well, and for negligible gains. unless it's just something you do cos you wanna do it, which is basically why i do any of this shit, so i get it.

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

ᴛᴇʀʀʏ ᴅᴇᴀɴ /

so that domino cable splitter thing sucks. for my application anyway, I'm sure it's great for if you have cables with the little balls on both ends. it's cos I'm trying to stuff two of those little knarps in it and there just ain't room

so fuck it I made my own

IMG_20200304_195535.jpg

I may add slits to pass the cables through, but I don't think I need to since the two carb side cables will have knarps and I can just pass the throttle side cable inner through

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

it werks

I think I may give it a spring to help the throttle since it's a little stiff, ya know, opening to carbs and all, but it's heckin functional.

I'm also gonna double stick it to the frame to keep it out of the way, but yeah
