motobecane leg shield

was the moby leg shield ever on the us imported bikes? I kinda dig the look of them but only a few bikes have them. Was it a Europe only thing?

We have a bunch from the Handy Bikes stash so I'd guess it was a dealer option.

Re: motobecane leg shield

Leg shields were a dealer installed option, there were factory ones and aftermarket ones suited for Mobys. Those ones from handy Bikes were the Motobecane ones, they are SO excellent !!!

Can you still get them somewhere or do they cost you an arm and a leg (shield)?

We have some here. I have only the yellow on hand at the moment but we have some more orange in storage. I'm running to the storage warehouse this week to grab some more orange.

Seem like a crime to paint them.

Re: motobecane leg shield

Oh, I don't know, never saw red ones, had these painted, came out pretty nice I think.

Hot dang! that's a beautiful bike, one that you keep 'till you die.

Re: motobecane leg shield

Thank you, I used to think that, sold it this spring, sad to see it go, but I was not using it, and it was paying the price, these need to be run. The shields were not as hard to find as the mounting hardware was.

Tis mighty pretty. I wonder how my blue 79 would look with leg sheilds painted white....a little too Honda-esque?

Re: motobecane leg shield

I think that would look pretty good.

Re: motobecane leg shield

Stock (or stock-ish) Mobys look excellent with leg shields. Back in the 1970s for some reason the shields were not considered 'cool' so lots of bikes did not get them put on, or they were even taken off (same with the side covers being taken off permanently)

I prefer my stock Mobys "all dressed"

Mine isn't stock. It's kitted with Doppler everything. Would leg shields slow me down?

Re: motobecane leg shield

Might not fit with the pipe...

Re: motobecane leg shield

Might have to trim to fit...

...or be the heroic Moby guy who buys one, uses it as a plug to fiberglass cast some replicas that can be cut to fit on anyone's bikes...

I'm bad at that. Ive tried glassing before.

I have a doppler pipe with my leg shields on an av10 with kickstart. No complications at all. I've since replaced it with a simonini circuit and it's good to go as well.

I've got this going on

Heres an old photo of mine mounted with similar setup. You should be just fine.

Re: motobecane leg shield

I like them all dressed up as well. One might call it "nerdy", but people are still looking at you, and that's half the fun of mopeds, right?

Re: motobecane leg shield

Added some to my 50v which I had swapped out for an av10 and Simonini circuit.

Oh my! I really do hope these shields don't sell out! I'll be working on a yellow Motobecane project at some point and These would would really spiffy things up a ton. A Moby with leg shields ranks very high on the list of favorite bikes.

That red and that silver...hells to the yeah.

One question, will it slow me down? Im hitting 40s on mine I don't want to lose that

Re: motobecane leg shield

Gonna slow you a little.

I really want a moby, simply because they're such pretty bikes. IN my own opinion the best motobecane is a yellow one with ivory white leg shields and a long chrome pipe. mmmmm, I drew it the other day. ahhhhh, frenchies

Re: motobecane leg shield

Get a Passport....JK, I never liked the look of the performance pipes, all stock is the cleanest look imho. Stock pipe can be opened up a bit for a tad extra performance.
