Mopeds are getting popular again in France

One of the things that sparked my interest in mopeds was my frequent day trips over to France (from the UK) with my dad. The Pound vs the Franc and then the Euro was so good, we used to go over and get food, clothes and tabacco for him. I was around 11-12 years old and I always looked forward to getting a copy of Mob Mag. Those Frenchies were doing crazy shit with mopeds in them pages. Fast forward 25 or so years and I now live in France. Although Mob Mag has been gone quite a few years, I have just found this ad for a new magazine solely for mopeds. I'm going to shoot off down the store after work tomorrow to see if I can pick up a copy and let you know if it's any good.

Aww man that looks sick!

Re: Mopeds are getting popular again in France

Just got back from Paris. Saw a whole bunch of Peugeot Vogues, along with other small cc bikes. Pretty rad.

Dang I'm living in the wrong country.

Re: Mopeds are getting popular again in France

Happy to hear this! When I first went to France in the 90s there were mopeds everywhere, but in recent years I've been disappointed to see only scooters and motorcycles.

Very very nice.

When I get it, I'll see if there is any option of subscriptions for Americans or maybe it would be available in Canada? Hopefully they do an online version?

All I thought about all day, working in the rain, was picking up a copy of the mag. I went to both the Tabacs (small stores that sell tobacco, lottery tickets, a healthy selection of porn magazines and candy) in town and both had sold out. Last ditch attempt was to go to the supermarket and there on the shelf was 4 copies, boom! It looks good for a first edition. I hope by the fact it was sold out in some shops, there will be a strong following. The subscriptions page didn't have an option for US delivery, but you could try hounding Mob & Co subscriptions to see if they can get an outlet over there. Here are a few pictures

Moped magazine should just be called cringe factory. Because they have that shit down to a science and crank out nothing but bull shit. In the moped Monday podcast his accent changed more than 3 times, that was the weirdest part of the whole deal. Just be yourself man.

Re: Mopeds are getting popular again in France

Mopeds have never stopped being popular in Europe, just declined from main stream as competition heated up with the cheap asian invasion, similar to the demise of larger bikes in North America... but with the 'scooter-factor' being a bit more of a major influence in addition to the EU regulatory demands on anything with a engine.

Nice. Thanks for posting those photos.

I forgot to keep this updated with a few snapshots when a new issue comes out. There is also a quarterly magazine called 50 Power, it's on issue 8. The first couple of issues were newer shifties based, now it is older stuff. If I get time over the next week, I'll get all the magazines out and snap more for your peepholes.

This is great, the french are so much more into storytelling and documenting culture than we give them credit for. Vive la French, shit did i say that write?

I think, for the most part, it's because they are still living in that time, in a way. Technology and the internet really hasn't taken hold here anything like the UK or US. They don't find everything they search for and of course, things they didn't search for, at the end of a screen. So magazines like these can exist here. There used to be a super well known magazine called "Mob Chop", it ran for years. That all changed in the late 90's when fifty shifties took over and the moped scene dried up, so did the magazine. The last couple of years has seen a return to youth for guys and gals of the generation who couldn't afford mopeds at the time, just like the Splitty and Beetle crowd nowadays. Prices are rocketing and collectors are buying up.

Re: Mopeds are getting popular again in France

Old Mob Chop covers are the best.
