the answer to my question and jesse's problem. there are 2 types or mag r/r's. ac uses a grounded stator and only will work with a half wave r/r. ungrounded stator=full wave r/r. either scoot types are less than 6$. you can't know without testing the stator if the + lighting wire is attached to another wire or to the stator plate. the r/r depends how its wired. there are 2 types.
here is where the naming comes in 2 alternator field types or r/r. type 'a' or type 'b' r/r's. one the field coil is grounded the other both field wires go to the r/r.
so I ask you marc does that mean the field coil floats if you unground the thing or does that mean you converted from type 'a' to 'b' or 'b' to 'a' or whatever.
floating is a full wave solution. its where you use a floating ground for - and not the frame. it's a full wave solution for an ac stator coil. it is not electrical isolation from igniton. its electrical isolation from the frame. went to school at ny tech on route 107. (edited)
