(Dare I ask) 1977 Batavus Bronco

David Moffatt /

I have been offered a 1977 Batavus Bronco, complete in running condition with 2800 miles on it for $200. From reading other posts on this model, it doesn't sound as if they're a favorite around here, but I'm looking for opinions on the price and practicality. I'm not looking for a collector piece or something to mod--more likely to haul a few groceries until something breaks that I can't fix.

This one has turn signals, which I cannot find on any similar bikes that I can find online. An add-on? Factory option? Any thoughts?

I guessing this one will need tires (don't they all?). That and a bit of shining up and I'm hoping it will serve well as a "personal transporter". Is it worth $200? Open to any thoughts--yes, even if your honest opinion is that I should run like hell.

DO IT

Re: (Dare I ask) 1977 Batavus Bronco

$200 in running condition? Go for it.

I figured anything that will run should be worth $200. Just wondered, given the reputation these have, if they have some hidden problems that I don't know about! Appreciate the reassurance.

Re: (Dare I ask) 1977 Batavus Bronco

Blinkers are probably a cat-eye aftermarket set, a nice option. Seats are beyond goofy, but rumoured to be comfortable. Price is right for running/riding, does it have a title if your state needs it?

Yes, it does have a title. Even the repair manual and some other paperwork.

Whoa whoa, anyone hating on a Bronco obviously never rode one. Sure performance parts are scarce (largely non-existant) but that doesn’t make it a crappy bike. Stock they can hit respectable speeds and the stock Bronco seat is amazing! Put it this way, I don’t want anymore mopeds but if a bronco popped up forsale I would find the space. I had one years back that I sold and regretted it ever since.

Now I say this in regards to a Batavus Bronco. Other Batavus bikes can make good reliable stockers but the Bronco is special to me.

Re: (Dare I ask) 1977 Batavus Bronco

Buy it forthwith. Post pics! (edited)

Whoa! Nobody in this whole thread hated on a bronco. Relax. What were you reading?

Re: (Dare I ask) 1977 Batavus Bronco

David Moffatt /

I didn't mean on this thread. Some bozo apparently tried to sell his for $1500 a while ago. A lot of the comments suggested that the Bronco isn't a very desirable moped. I just wondered if they might have a weakness I didn't know about. I certainly understand the shortage of available parts, but.....that is fairly common with a 70s machine.

Re: (Dare I ask) 1977 Batavus Bronco

It’s a stock chopper moped. Why is this conversation even happening - just buy the damned thing already they’re fucking sick

I sold mine years back to some dude up in Chicago. I wonder who has it now?? I made a little intake for it, opened up the reeds a bit, and installed a Dellorto carb on it.

Relax. What were you reading?

I was relaxed... i was trying to stress the awesomeness of the Bronco.

Re: (Dare I ask) 1977 Batavus Bronco

One of my all time fav stock bikes and one of the very, very few mopeds I would still buy nowadays. DO IT.

Re: (Dare I ask) 1977 Batavus Bronco

David Moffatt /

UGH! Have been communicating with the seller and said I was definitely interested, which got a positive response. I posted earlier today that I needed to get my carrier out of storage, which was read but no reply. Then I let the seller know that I was all ready to go and could we set up a time and a place to meet. Silence for three hours, after which it was marked "sold" without any further word.

Sigh. So it goes in the crazy world of mopeds and online classifieds.

There are two words when buying mopeds, yes I’m interested and no. No maybe I’m interested but I need to get feedback first and look for my rack. it will be gone. Just saying. Broncos are so rad for $200 it was a no brainer dude. (edited)

Somebody got there first. And I quite agree, they may well have thought I was putting them off. Ah, well.
