Gas to Oil mix ratio on Motobecane Moby

Anthony Walter /

Alright, most of my research has been inconclusive, can the question be put to rest? Is what the gas tank says the best mixture? (4 ounces of oil to a gallon) (32:1)? That's what I've been using, bone stock setup even with the gurtner carb. Is 40:1 better? Hopefully these questions can be answered and more in this thread.

Additional helpful information?

I'm running an NGK B6HS and swapped out the sparkplug cap with an NGK cap. I have a 50v, if that's relevant.

32:1 is factory recommended from back when dino oil was supreme.

You can run it dryer 40:1 or 50:1 with synthetic or semi-synthetic.

Do not run too dry though because the oil is the only thing that transfers the heat of the piston crown to the cylinder walls so it can be shed by the cylinders cooling fins. If that thin film becomes too thin then the oil will no longer lubricate and will allow the rings to weld themselves to the cylinder wall.

32:1 is fine, been riding Motobecane's since about '83, always used that ratio, never fouled a plug or had an engine failure.

How often does the cylinder/exhaust pipe require carbon removal at 32:1?

Depends a lot on the oil used and how the bike is ridden .

Putting around will require more attention than blowing the dust off regularly .

The most miles I ever put on one was a bit over 6k, and it never needed it, bike ran as well as it did when I got it when I sold it. I used Castrol 2t back then. Run the same mix in all my bikes today, but usually use Yamalube. No smoke either.

Thanks for the advice. I'll continue to run 32:1

Re: Gas to Oil mix ratio on Motobecane Moby

32:1 ive done 40:1 and it was fine

Mobys seem to like more oil than most

Guessing because they dont hold oil?

Or the case is so small it heats up quick

Idk

Voodooo to meee lol
