Garelli gran sport kit build problems.

What’s up guys new here to moped army and need your help on my first project any insight appreciated. I bought the 70cc noi malossi reed valve kit and Installed it. I’m running stock timing. 16mm Sha. Polini senior shitter pipe.

Stock air box I Also have a malossi high flow air breather. Brn 70cc head custom cut for the malossi kit. I did match the to the transfers of the case or I did my best. My compression test hit 180psi is this normal ? next issue is the head doesn’t seal. Can I run the head without a head gasket?

Where should I set my timing, spark plug and points gap?

The point gap should be the same. You might want to advance the timing ever so slightly for the expected higher rpm. Beware to advance too far since this can cause excessive heat. You will already have that as a possibility with a higher compression head. I try and avoid too much compression because of the heat factor. I build mine to last, not to race. if this were my build, I would run a gasket if only to reduce the comp slightly to increase longevity

How did you get the head to seal with the gasket ?

You have to snug the bolts up then tighten then evenly. And yes you must use a head gasket on the NOI. Also I run my timing 1.8mm btdc but 1.6mm btdc will let it run a little cooler. (edited)

Re: Garelli gran sport kit build problems.

So guys thanks for the help I got the bitch running. So first we made a home made leak down test and found a leak from the spark plug, reed block, fix it with some gasket dressing sealed up nice did the same with the head and no more leaks. The timing is set on1.6mm btdc

And I’m reaching temp over 400 degrees. Breaking it in with a 80 jet at the moment. Will update with a video of me running it. Thanks for all the insight.
