Tomos Streetmate Likes it LEAN

evan nelson /

Hey y'all,

I've noticed a lot of people asking about jetting recommendations for their Streetmate. I've run into a weird problem; Mine likes it way leaner than any other posts I've read.

2005 Streetmate

stock cylinder

stock 14 carb

techno bullet exhaust

metal mesh filter

30 idle jet

stock atomizer

ONLY 55 MAIN JET

58 main jet runs OK too, but not as fast, and bogs if I WOT early. Anything in the 60s range just sucks all power and 4-strokes like crazy. I know people say you need to upjet, but in my case that makes things worse. WTF?

What's going on here?! Most people report using 60s or even into the 70s.

Re: Tomos Streetmate Likes it LEAN

Because you have a stock cylinder and haven't modified your airbox, a 55 is plenty. With that exhaust, IF you open yer airbox, you'll need to upjet to maybe 58.

Pull yer spark plug and I'll bet yer not running lean at all.

*EDIT* The exhaust is actually a Tecnigas, like this one:

Don,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I replaced the stock airbox with one of those cheap metal mesh filters.

Guess it still isn't a big enough difference to need a bigger jet?

With cheep 69$ (though I paid 59$ When first listed for sale) performance pipe, metal mesh filter and a 64 jet, large 13$ mesh filter and middle clip on needle,

Here is my performance of stock a55 heavy revival bike and my 200lb body with cheep revival tecno performance pipe, several years ago,

If you can’t get near a close what I did/do without taking apart the engine in anyway shape or form, give it up and get a Chinese scooter or small 4t motorcycle/monkey bike because you can’t tune a 2 cycle bike if you’re life depended on it,

Enjoy buying a junk china scooter every year or two while I keep my personal puch/tomos bikes that go all over the USA for 40 years/forever!

Re: Tomos Streetmate Likes it LEAN

You must have worked on the porting and timing,Ken…………..that thing flies!

Why are you being mean to this guy? He's actively tuning his shit. He just asked a question, and you gotta come in here waiving your dick around? You can post your setup to help this guy but this last part is just unnecessary.

Nope no porting or timing work done Don,

Ya Nick Haber I thought I was posting to different guy that I gave the same information time and time again saying stock air box better so I’m so sorry

I have 5 gal buckets overflowing with stock air boxes And while quieter they hurt performance especially when used with a performance pipe

Ya Evan you need middle clip selection on needle with filter and performance pipe,

That will help

Well those are some interesting replies haha.

To be clear: the bike runs fine. On flat it will top out around 40 on the bike’s Speedo (which, after testing with phone GPS speedo, is surprisingly accurate) and go about 45 downhill.

For what it’s worth:

-I have needle clip at richest setting. Tried it at middle and it would lean-bog when going fast downhill.

-I weigh about 160lbs

-Currently summer in Wisconsin which means super high humidity and about 80-90°F

Any other theories as to why it prefers 55 main instead of like everybody else who has somewhere in the 60s? Maybe it’s the Tecnigas pipe? Don’t think it’s the best...

Re: Tomos Streetmate Likes it LEAN

Try no filter and see if it goes lean, if it does filter could be blocked or bad because filter can block up quick,

I use this large 13$ Mesh filter,

8BF44972-B016-43C8-BAF4-9278E687B8EE.jpeg

64 jet, middle clip on stock needle, stock idle jet, around 1.5 turns on air screw and I use tecno bullet pipe which does rev out a bit more than a tecnogas pipe,

Not to mention your pipe could have a restrictor in it or a blob of weld inside by stinger blocking from being made wrong which I found on those pipes happen sometimes (estoril too)

But being lean going downhill you’re just richening the needle to compensate for the small jet, try no filter (ride on clean road) 60s jet and middle clip first before thinking of changing the pipe
