Re: Pacer SS

Ok I did some research and according to three different parts books, M1 motors came with a 13 front sprocket.

M01- 12 or 13 front- 20mph & 25mph versions.

M02- 13 front

All had either a 28 or 40 rear sprocket. No refference to any sizes in between. My rear does says "Z32" which is typical on any Italian sprocket.

I did find it interesting that there was a 7 spoke mag wheel option. Same sprocket sizes as wire spoke too. I have no doubts that they were also 16s and probably the exact same wheels thats on this other Italian bike:

Re: Pacer SS

So in retrospect, the new SS that I had as a kid would have been faster than most on top end because of a 28 rear sprocket. No doubt that anyone who has trouble breaking 30 mph on an otherwise stock machine has a somewhat larger rear sprocket.

Re: Pacer SS

. Chudas. /

Yeah I think according to Myrons, there were different versions of the SS, I think i have the mid speed (25mph) one cause it had a pretty big rear sprocket,

when i changed the sprocket it hit 30, then i added the pipe, upjet, 33, changed the clutch springs, which helped the take off.then i put those fancy MLM block and reeds which let it breathe more, upjet and hit 35

still has a stock intake and carb, which Im planning to upgrade next season, then fine tune everything.

I checked the carb on mine and its got a 52. Thats the magic number for Dellorto 14.12 carbs on 50cc 2strokes. I upjeted from 52 to 60 on a Garelli noi motor and picked up 2-3 mph. It four stroked on 62 so 60 is as big as it goes for now. I did remove the two tubes inside the airbox though. Idle and low speed seemed a bit rich until I dropped one of these custom slides into the carb. Night/day difference because it lets in more air to lean out overly rich bottom end with a 60 main jet installed. Need to grab a couple more.....

Re: Pacer SS

. Chudas. /

Oh awesome! I have a two 14.12s coming that i bought here along with a 15.15, I read that i can sand an incline on the slide to make it leaner in a thread.

I believe Im at a 62 right now.

Thanks for the info!

Re: Pacer SS

The 40T and more should be Minarelli powered. 34T standard for M1 and 26-28T for MO2. But that's on Sebrings.

Thank you Don.

Here is what the book of Pacer says, Part #30 and 47 respectively:

Re: Pacer SS

With a small 16" wheel, feel free to reduce that silly 40T sprocket to 34 on the M1 and 26 on the MO2. I run a 24T with an MO2 and 17" wheels.

That is UNLESS you LOVE climbing hills slowly, or weigh over 300 lbs.

Re: Pacer SS

Wow, the non top tank models look a lot like the LEM models the hardware store sold when I was growing up, any relation? LEM had mag wheels though.

Ive considered wheel size since day one of getting back into these money pits, and quite frankly 16" is way more common on all the Italians. I have a factory spoked 17" wheeled 2 speed noi. It even checks out with this chart by vin#. How often you see 17" wire spokes?

Re: Pacer SS

I had a Cosmo Colt II (MO2 engine)with 16" spoked wheels and if I hadn't traded it, the rear sprocket would've been downsized to 26 teeth or maybe even 24T...….preferably also changed to mags.

You hardly ever need 40+ teeth except on a Minarelli powered, because the engine to trans ratio is way higher on the Minarelli V1.

I see a Minarelli powered Pacer in PHOTO section, but I assume the engine bracket was changed for that engine by owner.

You are correct Don, the Pacer brand only came with Morini. There are a number of people who have engine swapped for a Minarelli. I cry a little every time I see one but that's how it is with with mopeds. ::::( I will admit I also did an engine swap but! It was still a Morini!! (M101) :D

Re: Pacer SS

I always switch the M1 over to MO2. I just don't like single-speed mopeds down here in the rolling hills. Plus the MO2 takes off WAY quicker from a dead stop at a light.

Re: Pacer SS

I have 33 teeth on the rear as I didnt wanna sacrifice take off, but with blue springs it pepped up off the line, I put on the 15.15 and Im getting a little gurgley at the bottom end, I have a #2 slide in, which has a incline, I also have a #1 with a flat bottom.

Its still ripping pretty good with a 64 jet in there. Havent plug chopped though.

Its 40 degrees here right now and boy was that ND30 gummy in there.

Thanks Don. I'll have to jump on that. :D

Re: Pacer SS

Yes, I think MopedLar mentioned TSC or Farm and Fleet also had the 2 gal. in 20W.

Re: Pacer SS

Gotta keep the Pacer SS thread going.

Shout out to Dave @ Moped Junkyard for digging up and coming through. I'm pleased with the last set of N.O.S. front forks with cones, cups, bearings, bar clamp and steering stem nut/washers. Love the nice unbeat rear stainless fender too. Pedal shaft seals are not easy to find either.
