I've thought about mountain bike shocks.low and high speed compression, rebound, and preload adjustment would be pretty nice. A lot of the roads here are as bumpy as mountain trails.They would require new shock mounts welded on the frame and a bit of tuning to dial them in.
Maybe I'll try some of the Doppler scooter shocks, which are similar to Fournales oleo-pneumatic shocks. They are adjusted with air pressure and seem to work well with mopeds.

They have a clevis mount on the bottom which should only require a spacer to fill in the excess space in the mount and sit flush against the top of the swingarm
