How to stop

Re: Is there any way to stop a motobecane at a stop sign or light while running

Clean the carb so it idles, if it idles on the stand the clutch could be hanging up, many replace the stock gurtner carb with the Del 15.15 or whatever it is called, avail at treats...

You have a rear brake lever on left of bars and a front brake lever on the right,

You pull them closed and brakes will apply,

Done,

I have the new carb

Re: Is there any way to stop a motobecane at a stop sign or light while running

You need to open the clutch and free up the start clutch arms, they are likely sticking and stalling the engine if you stop the cycle and it is also stopping the engine.

If the engine sputters and dies at idle then it is a tune up you need, clean the carb and set the timing correctly.

You will need a clutch/flywheel puller in order to do either fixes.

Yourself.

Re: Is there any way to stop a motobecane at a stop sign or light while running

The flywheel, note, the nut that holds it on is reverse threaded.

Re: Is there any way to stop a motobecane at a stop sign or light while running

Are your brake lights working? On most bikes that affects your idle while stopping.

Re: Is there any way to stop a motobecane at a stop sign or light while running

It's your clutch that is stuck. You need to remove it and check out what's going on....it on the opposite side from your photo

Your clutch is stuck/broken; your throttle cable is misadjusted; you have airleaks at the carb or seals.

There are like a dozen different things that would cause this.

I don't know why, but you have to have a thick skin here if you make a posting mistake. Your thread title allowed them a little joke on you.

You'll get a lot of help here, Austin. Don't go away mad.

Re: Is there any way to stop a motobecane at a stop sign or light while running

That is the magneto side of the motor. Thread of the Novi nut is left hand so you have to turn it clockwise to loosen using a 3/8 drive breaker bar. Put a #72 hose clamp around the flywheel with its nut at 3 oclock and cut a piece of 2x4 long enough to go from nut to the floor. That will stop the flywheel from turning as you loose the nut.

You will need a clutch/flywheel puller to adjust the timing though to take the cam off the crank... if that is what you are attempting...
