Custom, not Customized

Keith Pickelhaupt /

I am building a moped based on my Sun EZ-3 HD recumbent trike. It will have a 79cc Predator engine on it. I see plenty of customized mopeds here, but no custom built ones. I wouldn't consider my project a "motorized bicycle" because it is using a much higher quality engine than typical, it will have either a centrifugal clutch or a torque converter, and because it is based on a recumbent trike that it built like a tank. One major goal of this project is to avoid hard-to-get parts because this will be my only motorized mode of transportation, so when things break, I would really like to just be able to buy my parts local if at all possible.

So, am I in the right place?

Re: Custom, not Customized

eh probably not, there are some pretty good forums for people bolting big four strokes on bicycle frames, we mostly stick to 70's era pedal start 2 stroke mopeds from europe/japan around here.

you'll probably find more people doing scratch built bicycle-with-an-engine builds on the motor bicycle sites along with support for people doing custom gokart style drivetrains and stuff.

Off hand, I can think of two....that blue/orange custom race hobbit, and Toby's race tomos.

Cant find the hobbit thread though...

Yeah, you are in the right place. It has motor and pedals,so it's a moped. Doesn't have to be 2-stroke at all. Could even be electric. Still a moped .

They let non-mopeds on here(snail scooters), so don't be turned away by any hypocritical decorum.

There are motorized bicycle forums that would be helpful to you also.
