No VIN. feel like im sort of screwed

Bought a 2011 Tomos ST and have been trying to get it registered in WI. Couldnt find the VIN and after some reading here I learned that 2011-2012 tomos only had VIN stickers, not stamped on the frame. I looked behind the airbox and saw nothing. Im going to talk to the guy I bought it off of today and see if he has any paperwork. But if he doesnt Im not sure what to do? Sell it as parts and buy a different one maybe?

Re: No VIN. feel like im sort of screwed

seems like theres not really a legal answer, i think i should just sell it to someone who is ok it doesnt have a title and keep searching

Re: No VIN. feel like im sort of screwed

if the vin is not on the headset and theres damage like someone scratched it off its...hot. those foil stickers usually dont peel off. if u send in the paperwork u can use this...just add your choice of last two numbers....

If you get the receipt from the original seller there should have been a title on it or an MCO I think it is a $20 fee and they'll research and come up with a VIN that you can use as a substitute and what you do is is you register the frame and in print the number on it after you receive the number I think it's like a $70 fee at least it is in Pennsylvania I don't know what it is out of state but it's the same paperwork you do use to get an R title on a car and where it asks for the mechanic license number you put your driver's license number because I mechanics license is not required for a moped so you could fill out the same paperwork that you would for a car without a mechanic's license and then push the title through even if it paled fails to go through you'll still get six months of ride time on a transferred plate so basically if you have a moped plate you can transfer it to the bike while you're waiting for the answer on the title even if it's rejected you still have three months

You'll have to research your state laws but I do believe that you could file an affidavit of ownership like you just claim ownership of this bike I think you have to put an ad in the paper and run it for 30 days and if nobody claims it you can title it from scratch and get a number issued by the state

Re: No VIN. feel like im sort of screwed

Wont they run it and see that it comes up with nothing? I dont see any scratches or peel marks. I bought it from a family that was selling their moms stuff since she died at a rummage sale, im thinking maybe if they ask the dmv or state police if theyre able to search her name for titles on vehicles.

Dying at a rummage sale is how I wanna go. good luck legalizing it!

Re: No VIN. feel like im sort of screwed

I really wouldn’t worry about it. Its a moped. I don’t even register my stock mopes and that cops don’t harass me. If you work on the moped they definitely will not harass you because the see that you spend your time fixing and riding your moped when you could be doing something way worst.

I may or may not ride one blue Moby under the reg of another blue Moby, shit happens. Might go legit just have been lazy.

I do believe if you look on the gooseneck behind the headlight..

and right above the engine where it mounts there should be a stamp number that is the VIN number
