Re: Fantic sprinter project

Dope. Hadn't seen the pipe on it yet. That plastic heat shield tension has me on edge

Re: Fantic sprinter project

Got some rough dremmeling done the other day.

Re: Fantic sprinter project

Got the new treats v1L Gila Reed block adapter. Ran into some issues. Working with treats on the issues and they're being awesome. The spread on the mounting bolts on a fantic C2HLKS is just slightly wider than the adapter so I dremeled it out to work but the heads of the alen bolts hit the adapter wall so I gotta grinder them down. Then the alen head are too tall for a stock Gila to fit in right (treats is taking care of that in the description so you know you need low profile bolts). The problem after that is I gotta make a 90 degree intake cause of vertical clearance issues.

Re: Fantic sprinter project

The adapter fits just perfect above the cylinder though. Need the intake to go left since the pipe is on the right (opposite of stock).

Re: Fantic sprinter project

Looks great. Get the polini studs they're ace.

If you didn't want to make an intake you could maybe use a Malossi 360° rubber intake or a cheaper equivalent .

Be able to put your carb wherever you needed .

They look like they would keep the carb away from your frame too and as a bonus they are short with really good flow.

Re: Fantic sprinter project

try running countersunk m6 with that reed adaptor and see if the block will clear. Countersunk will also auto center it. They wont go flush into the adaptor, but they dont need to!

Re: Fantic sprinter project

Re: Fantic sprinter project

The problem with counter sunk is getting a tool in to counter sunk and counter sunk heads are wide af at that size bolt. Treats has some low profile bolts coming to me when they come in. Got a table vice the other day to help grind down the bolts I have atm. Didn't grind them down enough then nearly blew it checking them in the case again. One got super stuck for a pants shitting second. Decided to leave it alone for a bit after that.

Re: Fantic sprinter project

Low profile socket head, or cheese head might do the trick.

Re: Fantic sprinter project

Idk how much clearance you need but you can chuck the theads of the bolt in a drill and run it against a grinding wheel. You can take some off width and the top.

He's having clearance issues with the heads of the fasteners, NOT accessing the heads.

Re: Fantic sprinter project

Found the perfect thing to make an ignition key out of for my stock sprinter. Could fit right in the "handle" area between the tail light and the "handle" on the back of the seat. Bigg issue would be securing it well enough that it won't rattle out.

Re: Fantic sprinter project

Got board so I did this. A coworker gave me a 60s ac stick welder and gear so once we wire from the junction box and get a plug going I could get some more stuff done maybe.

Re: Fantic sprinter project

Also got this done with an angle grinder. Pretty proud of keeping that near perfect line. Not so proud of getting aluminum all over my shit though. Spacer block needed shaped to clear the intake setup.

Re: Fantic sprinter project

I want to machine as much of this block as possible to make it real nice but I don't have access to the tools yet. I got impatient but it came out nice enough for a rough go at it.

Re: Fantic sprinter project

Coworker gave me a small Sears screw lathe so I'm turning down part of the cylinder studs so I'm not flexing the studs in for the kit.

Re: Fantic sprinter project

Rough fist go on the lathe. The cylinder still needs some force to get it to the right spot so I'm gonna finish the studs up with a file and sand paper tomorrow. The lathe is for making threads so it's not a perfectly smooth run but it does the trick. Not a lot of threading to put a washer and nut on. Should have the welder wired in the shred tomorrow as well so I can move forward with the intake.

Got some milling done yester zo moe the spacer sits on the cases. Still needs transfers, water jacket, and inlet done. Then shaping to the kit outline done.

Re: Fantic sprinter project

Did some more mocking and decided the foot pegs were too high and forward so I cut the welds holding them on but they can still bolt to the bottom engine mount and re-welded in the same spot. Mounted them in a better spot with zip ties but probably gonna have to find some rearsets to use or make my own.
