General 5 Star Minarelli V1 Parts?

Looking at picking up a pretty complete, but covered in surface rust 5-Star General with a Minarelli V1

The majority of the rust the outside of the gas tank. Looks like someone patina'd it...

How are parts availabilities for this chassis? The Minarelli has plenty of support it looks like.

Comparing getting this to an 85 Puch... I like the top tube look of this General (and the extra weight it can potentially handle) but I also don't want to be having to find random bullshit replacement parts, though I can't imagine there would be many.

Re: General 5 Star Minarelli V1 Parts?

If the tank is good you are golden. Buy it...made in a factory on Taiwan most of the parts aren't crazy nutzi rare.. interchangeable with grysner, Clinton and others..kinda a Peugeot clone in a wierd way if I remember right.

Post a pic

and I guess this is a photo from 2 years ago

According to the seller:

75cc Polini Cylinder.

DellOrto 15.15 SHA

Original locking gas cap

Puch Estoril pipe

Shaved tabs off frame (I don't know what that means...)

Custom seat pan

No motor fan (is that good? I see these V1s have a little fan on the side of the case)

35mph (edited)

Re: General 5 Star Minarelli V1 Parts?

Did he patina the forks too??? If so, he is not the brightest crayon in the box. That bike is nappy and missing alot. How much is he asking?? Only value i see is in the tank and motor... which isnt killer. That to me is pushing parts bike category. Also, any ex-mopedarmy moped that has been kitted that ive bought normally is all janked up. Random parts cut off frames, permatex, etc...

I personally would want a fan for the motor. Which those can be somewhat annoying to track down and can fetch $50+. The shave tabs means you cant get OG side covers to mount up stock anymore (which may or may not be a plus to you). I personally would not have called that a custom seat pan, as it would be one of the first parts i ripped off and replaced.

That bike would need to be cheap for me to buy it. Im not sure i would even pay $200 for it. Maybe $100-$150 if i just really wanted a General project. It has no lights, fenders, etc... too much missing and too much nappy. (edited)

tbh, it looks like someone with moped knowledge had it then for whatever reason somebody ELSE got it and either beat it until it stopped then left it out in the rain for 3 years.

Re: General 5 Star Minarelli V1 Parts?

Guy wants $160

Re: General 5 Star Minarelli V1 Parts?

He did actually respond to my first email. I sent him one last night at midnight and another this morning.

looks like you may have to just hitch up the trailer and roll down through winthrop 'til ya find it.

Re: General 5 Star Minarelli V1 Parts?

that would take all of a half hour :D

Winthrop is teeny.

thats what im sayin! I was up at ATG yesterday and actually considered just spending the rest of the day in winthrop lookin for that thing

Re: General 5 Star Minarelli V1 Parts?

Ugh... ATG sucks. I live near it and go medical. Overpriced and underpowered.

Re: General 5 Star Minarelli V1 Parts?

Gonna need new forks...I wouldn't buy that thing but to each his own...

easier than gettin in and out of brookline tbh

i dont bother with medical, never could see why i had to pay the state for the priviledge of getting

medicine

anyway, good luck with the V1 and keep us posted

honestly, id strip the whole thing down (while taking notes) and see if its salvageable before dropping nearly 3 bills on forks

you may find the frames bent or rusted totally through in spots or who knows what

def a good project that you could either have running in a couple days or spend the next 3 years making a custom ripper

roll the dice!

You could get it running but it will be a rat bike unless you sink some serious money in it. If the bike was in front of me i would consider $160 but driving to go get it Id say pass. No loss there if you dont get it. Its clapped out

Re: General 5 Star Minarelli V1 Parts?

The V1 is a great motor, almost bulletproof, and with the polini kit it can be a rocket. BUT, the 35mph claim kinda scares me. Makes me think the guy mighta messed up the ports, screwed the timing, etc.

The rest of the bike would make a good racer project, but restoring it would be a money pit.

And having the fan and shroud/cover is nice. Keeps the temps down.

If it was here in California, $160 is a steal. I'd buy it just for the motor.

Agreed. I too would not drive from Ohio to get this.

Re: General 5 Star Minarelli V1 Parts?

I mostly wanted it for that top tube frame. I figure a top tube is going to be a lot better to hold my fat ass than a step through... plus I can never find a Magnum that's not way out of my price range or already built...

Re: General 5 Star Minarelli V1 Parts?

It's like 15 minutes away without traffic.

To me at $160 and a 15+ minute drive it would have to be a bike Ive just wanted (considering the condition). If your meh about it than pass. If you really dig it than the go for it. There is $160 worth of parts there i just dont think its a good starting point for anything more than just a rat bike. Even as a rat bike you will need to wire up lights and all the jazz.

Now with that being said the generals ive owned were solid bikes. If there ever was a moped made for hefty people they would be it.

My family and I drove 8 hours from Athens to Chicago, spent three nights there to get a vespa grande super deluxe for 450. Granted, it was the mintiest one I had ever seen. But then again we are car travel people. Our longest continuous drive with NO stops has been 28 hours.

That bike was on NYC CL earlier today fro $750 and got taken down already.

Looks like y'all slept on the $160 too long

Re: General 5 Star Minarelli V1 Parts?

Seriously? Link?

*edit - yep. The link I had to the Boston one has 'been deleted by its author.'

ok, shut it down! (edited)

I would have walked for $200... $750 is insanity
