Saw it on reddit and was wondering who's behind it? Quoted from reddit here:

Indiegogo campaign here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/moped-money-series

"Moped Money" is a two-man project launched by two friends of mine that took a year to make and was shot with just two mobile phones. After posting the pilot on Youtube, they have launched an indiegogo campaign to raise funds to continue making episodes and pitching it to get picked up by a network.

Moped Money is a first-of-its-kind competition, where two teams each get one busted moped, $500, and 24 hours to build the fastest, best looking bike they can on a shoestring budget. The winners keep the moped and score some cash. The losers walk home.

Quote: ` The losers walk home.'

No one should walk after expending efforts on mopeds. Winners win, Losers need no punishment. Otherwise, nice format!

I know for a fact you have been in the same room/on the same ride as three people from the pilot, because I was there.

Re: Moped Money (build-off tv show pilot thing) ?

I kinda skipped through it during my lunch, seemed entertaining. Good effort and the discovery/hitory/speed network format worked well for this.

weird

Re: Moped Money (build-off tv show pilot thing) ?

Its the Sunset Riders—they are NYC but mainly in Sunset Park. Really nice guys, they make it out to our rides sometimes. Mainly they do their own thing on Fridays, and always invite us, but Friday is usually a "wife life" day so i never make it.

Good show! I wish I had one tenth their skill! But I'm gonna keep wrenching! 8)

I was there for the filming of the final race, it was really cool! I wish i could have been part of the build off but Saturday's are a no go for me.

The losers should be forced to wear animal costumes and ride through the city

Re: Moped Money (build-off tv show pilot thing) ?

it would make everybody watch the ending credits

Re: Moped Money (build-off tv show pilot thing) ?

That was great! I hope they can get someone to pick this up for a full season. It would be really fun to see more people get featured as builders on the show. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

At least they'd be riding something.

I should've known the dude was in trouble when he was worried about painting the Puch and when he picked the metrakit based on the reviews he read.

Hey if the guys are reading this I got four project bikes sitting here and I'm only about sixty miles from New York City...

You could probably even catch a casino bus here and get a U-Haul back

What is interesting to me is the builders don't seem to know that much compared to people on this board?? Would be cool to invite MA chapters to compete against each other.

I like the educational aspect of the show as well. If that hell's satans reality show can get picked up.. hopefully this will.

I'll also remark on the unique editing. What was there like a couple hours left until the deadline and the yellow Puch was still in pieces and then . . . cut to the race. Bullshit! My bet is they couldn't have an unfinished bike on the pilot episode. Just doesn't make for good tv.

Ill say that Ralphie and Joel are two experienced craftsmen, i would even say artists. Every one of their bikes are top notch, minty pieces of museum quality work, I've seen them all in person.

The two of them together are more than capable of assembling 1 maxi in the time they had left.

Re: Moped Money (build-off tv show pilot thing) ?

Wow! Thanks for all of the positive responses! If you want to see another show, this one cost a lot of money to make so we are kinda relying on our indiegogo crowd funding to make the next one bigger and better. Oh and of course we will be taking into consideration the people who donated, first, when we choose the contestants for the next episode. Check out the indiegogo link here:

I've been wrong before.

Re: Moped Money (build-off tv show pilot thing) ?

As the proprietor of a shop there were a lot of cringe things. Like neither team bothered replacing the engine seals, nor replace the crank shaft, but did slap 70cc kits and pipes on em. I think a better idea would be to do it at Fred's warehouse in atl and have hundreds of bikes you have nevee seen in various conditions. I feel like staging in that way, the yellow bike was garunteed to look better. Yellow maxi have the best paint hands down.

Re: Moped Money (build-off tv show pilot thing) ?

I can't stand the discovery channel chopper show ca. 2003 build off vibe, drives me nuts. Nice that someone put the time into making this but i made it through about 3 minutes skipping around. ugh.

Why does it have to be a race? Why does everyone have to be doing shenaningans? Why not just make a simple unauspicious show with good production that shows the process and the finished product, take a couple days and do a nice job without acting like a clown shoe, that would actually be nice to watch.

maybe if you could get guy fieri to host it or something, then that production style would totally work.

Re: Moped Money (build-off tv show pilot thing) ?

Here is an episode of the podcast we did with Jon who is the man behind "Moped Money". Check it out here or on itunes, spotify or the google play store

Hey guys as a side note there is a motorcycle drag race guy that's running open races in February and drag bikes in June of next year hey you might be able to fit it in the track is covered in the insurance is covered they have an extra slot PM me for his contact info there's also a semi private park that is almost a perfect oval with different elevations and pit lane it is on top of a hill so there's a hill climb going to it

Re: Moped Money (build-off tv show pilot thing) ?

Would have been more fun and a better challenge to give them both stock running bikes and see who could make it faster and how. Also, as far as the "race goes" jockey rider and timed distance so someone doesn't have a weight advantage... Anybody can Bolt a kit on....

Re: Moped Money (build-off tv show pilot thing) ?

I'd love to know where I could buy everything to restore, make safe, and kit a moped, plus tax and shipping, all for $500!
