Suggestions for a lightweight oil for my air filter?

Sierra LuluViola /

I just cleaned my air filter. Does anyone have suggestions for good lightweight oil to saturate the air filter in before I reinstall it?

Thanks!

Re: Suggestions for a lightweight oil for my air filter?

i used to use regular motor oil, which is old-school fine, but why not spoil your ride with some fancy K&N?

Re: Suggestions for a lightweight oil for my air filter?

I used K&N for years . Then I ran out , years ago , and have been using regular motor oil ever since .

The strange thing about that switch is I never noticed any difference , except I had a few dollars more in my pocket . ;)

Motor oil. If you are in a real pinch, you could use regular motor oil on your air filter. It is better than nothing. If you are old-school, you have probably done so on many occasions. The problem is that motor oil pools in the airbox, distributes itself unevenly and can be sucked through the intake tract. Air filter oil has special additives blended with the oil to solve these problems.

i've never known this to be an issue if i didn't douse the thing, but i definitely noticed that K&N is cleaner.

Nah . I saturate the element , then squeeze the oil out 'til the foam talks to me with it's squishy little voice saying that's enough .

Enough meaning : enough to catch dirt and not so much to be dropping out and getting the bottom of the 'box' oiled .

I know I should think about it more but I always figure my engine burps enough mix out backwards that the foam gets plenty damp...

I've used WD-40. I've also used an all purpose aerosol lubricant from wal-Nut. I feel like pretty much any light oil would work. I actually made the mistake of not oiling and air filter and let a little dirt in.
