I have a friend who's thinking of getting a moped because he listens to me prattle on and on about it. He's a big dude...425-450. Is there a moped that he won't murder? AND!!!! what would need to be done to it for reinforcement?...back shocks ect?

NO! Don't do that to a ped!
get a a35 tomos and a cross bar.

I have to agree.
my pick would be a vespa grande with a built engine, a reinforced sub-frame, heavy-duty shocks, and mags, not spoked wheels.
I don't think any moped would handle 450 pounds with much grace.....

I don't think 450# could handle a moped with much grace either.
I had a friend that size. Excavator operator buddy. 6'5" 450# and a huge man. He's dead now. He could barely get into the cab of his machine or a full size truck. He would have literally crushed a moped.
I think the Derbi Variant is the only "common" moped available with the GVWR that meets your needs. I'm not next to one of mine but I believe they're rated at 450 lbs.

get a tomos trike or some shit similar. defintely will want something in the 2 speed variety
That must suck to be that big.
I mean everything in your fucking life would be so hard.
Balancing 450lbs on lil moped wheels? Ouch

Blake, GVWR includes the weight of the bike. It would have to read approx. 575 to 600 lbs. depending on the Derbi's weight.
Build something with enough power to pull his ass, put better shocks and forks on it, weld plates and bars to anything that cracks. Fat dudes gotta brap too damnit!
My suggestion would be a Rupp or get a Minsk with a 1 instead of an i basically it looks like a Tomas with a freaking cage built around it
The rough is something what of a motorcycle and same thing with the Minsk but there'll OCC like 125
another would be like one of those small Harleys from the 70s like americi I think they were like 60 cc up to 75 or 150

Man, i had a line on a cheap aermacci 100 that fell through. Usually when you see those things for sale folks act like they're made of gold because of the silly bar and shield decal.
You need to ask him what His realistic expectations are. He would need a Custom Build ($ Pit) Moped for him to be safe & it to last. I'm guessing someone will say a TT with a Derbi set up (without getting Exotic) --- You might be directing him to the wrong habit.
Is he familiar with 2 wheels ? Are You ? Maybe get a couple Shifty 50's or 60's Scooters (Or a Cushman)
He might like the Performance of a Aprilia SR50 for a Daily Driver (edited)
Grande with adapted A35 thiccc scoota shocks and "custon" swing arm. Mags.
When you're 450 pounds losing weight should be your main priority, not riding mopeds.
He needs a Wide Glide not a moped.
i'm glad he active enough to seem interested.
maybe a noped honda supercub ''c70''
yamaha zuma 50cc...solid wheels, 42 mph
solid wheels would be where i would start.
a scooter for the lack of having to swinging your leg over. spare wheels ... spare belts.
Have you considered a Solex?
An AMF Roadmaster should work for him.
Damn, and I’ve been thinking I need to dump weight at 170#’s jus so i can haul more ass :0 Tell him to get a full on motorcycle and it should match u on your ped.

Biggest bikes I can think of are Sachs G3, Vespa Grande, Derbis, and that’s about it
Rupp's had car tires some ofthe Sears MTD the old ones you used to be able to adapt and turn into a motorcycle...

Mag-wheeled Sebrings are strong enough, but regular drum brakes and weaker wheel bearings limit them to 300 lb. rider or so.
Ive been thin/average my entire life but recently lost 30 pounds over the past year (medical reasons).
so last week i slapped an e50 i picked up on ebay on an old roller i had for a couple years, barely checked anything, and went for a spin
holy. fuckin. mackerel. that old piece of shit FLEW!
hands down the best mod ever.
