Don’t even know the year but it’s a garelli that’s all rusted out. The wheels don’t even spin, had to carry it to and from my truck. Is it worth anything if get it running???
That’s a monza GT, it’s worth nothing might as well give it to me.... but you got a good bike, nice find, put some time into it and it’ll be a sweet bike! If you don’t feel like putting any time into it let me know and I’ll take it off your hands
How! There have been a good number of new riders getting some pretty minty bikes. Hey God of Mopeds, gimme sum. Anyway cool bike ya got there. (edited)
You have a great moped there. Top-Tank KOOL! Get to work and make it run like a scalded dog!
Its cool looking yes, but you are totally out of your league on this one. Sell it to someone who is going to give it the love and attention it deserves.
Love the looks, don't know much about them, but I have seen a hell of a lot worse!
It's a 1986 Garelli Monza GT. The first thing to do I'd make sure the tank doesn't have any holes in it because if it does you won't find a replacement. At least not one you'd want to pay for.

It’s funny because I’ve been buyin these things for the past 2weeks as projects and been able to get them to start pretty easily but this one seems like it’s been stored under water. Everything is sealed hubs, engine even the cables. This is really a PROJECT lol
You may be rite on that one but we will see. I’ll post when I get it started lol
Thanks. It’s funny because everything else is a mess but the gas tank seems solid with some rust inside and the carb was pretty clean in comparison to the rest of the bike. I’m working on unseizing the motor today. I feel like all the bolts are gonna break off when I turn them smh.
Thanks my brother, I definitely won’t quit. I’ll post when I get it running god willing
Hose it down with PB Blaster and let it sit for a few days. Fill the cylinder with it too. Vinegar fill overnight for a clean tank.
Hit flat view at the top of the page .
Seems like Monzas are popping up all over the past couple weeks...
If you can get up here to Boston this just emerged the other day.
Activate their Wonder Twin power and youd have a sick ride

i would drain the tank, pull the petcock out, plug the fuel hole, flush it with white vinegar, slosh a little marvel mystery oil after you have tank clean to stop any new oxidation.
even if you don't keep it, you'll be setting it up better for the next rider/restorer.
If you intend to just flip it then dont put any work into it. I think that bike will require a bit of elbow grease and time. Let the next person have that experience, i think they will enjoy it more fixing it up. For as weathered as it looks it actually looks complete and very solid.
Good news worked overnight and got it unseized. Seems like the entire bike was submerged in water. Has good compression now but no spark. The flywheel looks horrible I’m thinking that’s the issue.
Good job! Don't let it intimidate you. You can do this. Plenty of Garelli knowledge here and other places.
Clean and regrease or replace the wheel bearing balls and races if need be.
Thanks. I’m no quitter. I’m new but I grabbed 5 mopeds in the last 2weeks and got 3running. Waiting on a carb for the 4th and this one is giving me a run for my money but I’m up for the challenge. Do you have any knowledge on the easiest way to clean a gas tank out. Also cleaning the fly wheel or should I just change it?
That's a rough-looking flywheel/magneto. What do the coils and contact points look like thru the slots? Don't get any solvent on them.
I'd replace the magneto minimum with NOS or a good used one.
If it isn't chunks of rust, just flaky,I would clean the gas tank with BBs or nuts and half full of vinegar, well-shaken. Some people use screws. Once the worst is out, then do a full soak in vinegar for a day or two. Rinse, repeat if necessary and follow up with a good coating of 2-stroke oil swished around inside the tank.
Then you gotta keep changing out a few paper-pleated filters until it runs clear .
Sell it as a rolling chassis for an engine swap if all else.
Would it need to be for that specific bike are they pretty general like the carbs???
weird..i thought the gold gt's all came with the radial garlidini (not sure if i spelt that right) head and cylinder. None the less its a great score. ebay will be your best friend
Walmart . Buy Citric Acid and mix a good strong batch in a bucket . Drop both the flywheel and complete stator plate in and let it work for a couple days . Check , rinse , repeat as needed .
You'll no doubt have to replace the condenser , maybe the points ...
You might also try Oxalic Acid . It does a pretty good job on rust , too .
Have a look . (edited)
Would be an awesome candidate for an engine swap.
I don’t know anything about except that it must have lived underwater for some time. But I’m having fun figuring things out daily plus you guys are a great help on this forum
Where would I find one? How much would a look to spend?
When you say mix what’s the mixture? I see some people of YouTube adding water to it. Or can I use it straight?

You really need to hit the FLAT VIEW at the top of the page .
Yes , mix it with water . It comes as a powder / granular .
