Register moped with missing vin

Found a maxi with vin missing... any tips on registering?

The moped has been repainted and restored so I’d rather not scrape the frame to see what’s under the seat

your solution is simple...

buy another cheap frame.

use the vin# off that & keep or destroy the frame you got.

Re: Register moped with missing vin

So, you "found" a stolen moped that you would like to pass off as legitimate. Yup, sounds about right.

I knew a guy who just made up a number and told then whatever it was.

the trouble w/making up a # is what ''if'' it's registered

now?

if you buy an old ''anything moped'' frame off someone, then you own the #.

it couldn't be simpler.

Yeah. Or hit some one up and buy their vin plate from the frame so you don't have to mess with extra stuff you can't use

Re: Register moped with missing vin

OR , just scrap the frame you have and repaint it . 2 minutes , DONE .

Re: Register moped with missing vin

Stamped vin should still be visible despite new paint job

it’s a hacked up custom there is no stamped vin anymore and the plate is long gone... the gentleman who gave me the maxi had it since new, and has photos before it got chopped up, it’s legit just need a vin to satisfy my local dmv

If it's not on the headstock it should be near the seat post all the way at the bottom at the base of the frame on the passenger side if it was a car throttle side now if you're not really hung up on it being called a maxi I don't even think they check as long as you have a valid moped title all the frames are basically. Approved so it's like Legos if you ever need to you can file an M1 form and basically it's like a salvage title thing for cars but since it's for a moped you don't need a mechanic's license to fill it out and then you just submit it with your copy of your present title and they'll issue you a new VIN number but you have to have the old one so basically you go buy a title with a frame or without and then use that number and stamp it on your frame and there's nothing illegal about replacing an existing frame with one that was bought you sure you're supposed to change the plate

Vin swapping is still illegal. Not saying it cant be done, its just on the "iffy" side of things regarding the DMV.

then he can't ever register it...once someone asks the dmv about what to do, they will make him pull out a larger wallet & a slower clock.

Yeah frame switching is kind of frowned upon when it comes to cars and motorcycles but the fact that you don't need a mechanic's inspection license to fill out the form that is required when you change your frame as long as the frame has been bought and purchased and you have a receipt you can put it in as a replacement frame in an mm1 form you're not creating a VIN number but you are replacing a damaged frame when you're done transferring the frame you just a fix you or VIN number
