I imported a 1992 Derbi Variant Start World Champion from Barcelona and the odometer reads over 31,000 KM. Converted to miles, this is nearly 20,000. In addition, the speedo cable is broken, so who knows how many miles it has actually covered. Previous owner used the bike for everyday transport for many years.
What is the highest miles you folks have seen?
Not really a moped, I rolled over a cub 4 digit odo 2 times, I'd gotten with 7k on it. Speedo broke with 4000. Fun question, I rode this garelli raid awhile that had 30something in km
My Maxi has 17.5k miles
One of my Sebrings has probably 26,000 miles. Speedo has been broken,but fixed.
Ya derbis have/get the longest belt life too,
Most of my personal puch bikes have 20k or more mi on them (with maintance) some stock, some had major work early on like if the engine was locked up when I got it,
I had a tomoses that had over 11,000 miles on the clock completely original untouched that still ran when I sold them, had Italian bikes with 12,000 original miles on them still ran before I sold them ,
I got a 86 derbi sport and even older electros that have 7k +on them that haven’t been used for 20 years that will start when you put gas in the plug holes so the engines are probably good but cables, controls, carb, tires and everything else is shot so they need restoration but engines, belts and drivetrain are all fine,
Follow your service manual on your bike change fluids lube and adjust everything accordingly, Check and replace rings about 5000 miles, put a piston and rings at 10,000 mi then just rings again (more frequency if single ring and or high rpm set up) and you could get good service life with no loss of performance instead of waiting for the whole top end to wear out and you could get a lot of miles out of a moped, even if it’s kitted!

Wow, I have two Champs with the highest miles out of any bikes I have picked up. The one has about 9,180 miles, the other is somewhere in the 8k range.
My bullet frame put on 10,000 miles s year average. For 21 yrs
I knew about a Jawa 555 which succeeded to overcome 200.000 km (!)
No clue how much my maxi has, i got it with about 6'800 k's and probably did about 12'000 per year since then, so about 42'000k's, that would be about 26'250 Miles (edited)
Owned my Free Spirit since it was brand new and it has somewhere north of 15,000 miles on it now. Teplaced a lot of stuff over the years and, except for tires and front sprocket, it’s never been modified, cases cracked open or even the clutch cover removed.
I’ve always taken good care for that moped and it still kicks ass for a bone stocker. I can see a decently maintained moped go well over 50,000 miles with a few rebuilds.
I have a 76(?) 40T that's pretty much just a frame with 16,000some miles. I'd love to resurrect it at some point.
My Champ just rolled over 7K. Just under 1K of that logged since I got it 6 months ago:)
When I lived in Albuquerque there was this old dude who rode his stock Maxi down out of the mountains daily for errands, last time I looked at it about 5 years ago it had about 20k miles on it.
One of my Urbans had over 13,000 on it before it was stolen. I still want to kill that asshole. I loved that bike.

That's got some stories. Or more likely the speedo/odo is broke
I've def seen VDO's hop around a bit, but I don't think 52k is our of the question.
I owned my MB5 for 4 years and put 6k on it, so if some dude was putting 1.5k on a year, that's be about right.
I had a friction drive roadmaster with 7k on it, pretty impressive for a chainsaw
We had a Peugeot 505 sedan that would go 100k+ miles every block. ;-)
I feel like I've never seen a moped above 11k miles.
I found a kz200 with 28k miles
And I recently picked up a Yamaha Riva 125 with 35k. Both ran again but surely need rings and valve help. Four strokes it's less crazy but still impressive...
My ‘78 Garelli GS LTD had over 20k miles when I stopped riding it in 1981. I rode that ped all over NJ when I was a teenager.
The world may never know.
I had a Tomos TTLX that had 13K on it beginning to tire so I kitted it. After another 14K I sold it with a total of 27K miles on it and it was still running strong

I’m more surprised that the VDO odometer worked for that amount of miles! I’ve seen quite a few cars with non functioning VDO odometers, I wouldn’t think the moped versions are any better.
Back in the day between my brother and myself… we made it to 21,000 miles on our ‘78 Puch Maxi Sport MKii.
