Derbi rant

Got a super high mileage derbi variant sport last spring. Rode it around stock for a few months. It actually did like 42mph bone stock and clapped. Not bad. Most of the Plastics are cracked or broken, The stock pipe was rattling apart ect. Also the headlight was extremely dim and only worked sometimes. Aside from all that I fell in love with it immediately.

I’m still very new to the flatreed, but it’s super forgiving.. the engine wheels and frame are super robust. Last fall I got the 50cc zen, a 19phbg /intake, the gila 50 and threw a one way bearing in the clutch.. Slapped those on the bike without a rebuild. It’s the fastest loudest moped I’ve owned. i love it. The original piston was roasted! I also scored a ds50 parts bike about 45 min away, for 250. got a lot of good parts off that.

With the second engine I got from the ds50 I’m going to build this vintage metra 65. From what I’ve gathered it’s sort of odd ball. Looking for a 65 head. 77’ says they have one in stock but I’m afraid to order from them..

I’d love to hear from any derb lords.. especially about this metrakit.

You grab that black DS50 on the eastern shore?

Also, send Dos Cycles and email. 8 times out of 10 they have the stuff that's on 1977 since i think they use the same warehouse. (edited)

Re: Derbi rant

cast iron lil metra is dope. the 43-44mm kits work pretty well with stock heads. the 44mm airsal heads work pretty good too. The start 3 decompless heads are tops but there's not many floating around.

I ran a newer metra/airsal 43.5mm with an italkit 40mm head and it was my favorite daily derbi I've had.

Don't order from '77 they drop ship and depending on Dan's standing at the time you may or may not be shipped your part. Hit Dos for anything that isn't a specifically '77 made part.

Re: Derbi rant

Yep! Eastern shore Virginia. Made my money back on the seat, starter assembly and ignition. Thanks for the heads up I didn’t know that they shared warehouses.

If anyone wants the body, you can have it. Just cover the shipping.

Re: Derbi rant

I got burned a long time ago and haven’t been back. I check and see what they have from time to time but never order anything. Sucks man I remember their first shop on grape vine it was.. in Kalamazoo. I was probably 13.. they let me ride a top tank of some kind around the block. I was hooked after that.

Definitely gonna start ordering from dos more.. looking forward to being closer in the fall as I’m moving to New Orleans this year. I’ve heard about the crazy hoard they have!

Wanna ship me that fender?

Re: Derbi rant

Idk if you can zoom in and see but it’s been rigged on. If you you want it anyway I’ll ship it to you.

Oh yeah I see that now. Mine is broken in the same spot. I think I'm going to do that same rigging. The PO had a body shop try to fix it and it's all bondoed up. They did a really good job but its failing after all these years.

someone always needs forks too

put those in the shed

Re: Derbi rant

You do realize that the Derbi in the photo is a scooter, not a moped notwithstanding the decal on the splash guard.
