Just picked this up and needs some work. Seller said it runs, but now im having trouble keeping it going, when it does run it has the same power as peddling it.

Sounds like you need to clean the tank, petcock, carburetor and put in a fresh spark plug first.

Re: Bought a 1978 sachs Trouble starting

#1 read fred's guide. https://www.mopedarmy.com/wiki/Fred%27s_Guide

#2 new spark plug, clean the carb. clean the points, check timing (all covered in Fred's guide)

If still sucky and powerless, delete the decomp valve. (covered in performance article below)

Once it's up and running right - should go 20-25mph - then further upgrades are covered in detail here:

Hey Willd thanks for the input.

On the decomp it has a wire running up to the clutch, are you saying I should disconnect it? (edited)

Re: Bought a 1978 sachs Trouble starting

the details are in that wiki, you wanna actually remove the decomp valve from the cylinder, replace it with a bolt. You can take the little clip spring part off the original decomp and leave it in-line on the starter cable if you wanna halfass it and not have to recable the starter clutch, it's understandable, it's a sortof unique cable and replacing it can be tricky

Re: Bought a 1978 sachs Trouble starting

I'm just confused how to set up the clutch plate if the decomp is covered. The cable running from my clutch on my handlebars, where would the other end go?
