Screw-On Air Filter - Do They Fall Off?

I'm upgrading my carb to a Dellorto 19mm racing PHBG, which has threads for a screw-on air cleaner. With the vibrations single cylinder bikes have, do these air cleaners work themselves off (just like every other nut and bolt)?

I don't want to come back from a ride and find out it's gone.

rubber mount...

Re: Screw-On Air Filter - Do They Fall Off?

I've never had a plastic screw-on airbox fall off. I have kicked off many rubber mounted air filters.

Full T, you mean accidentally hitting it w your foot, and having them fall off then?

More like: moped quits running in the middle of a busy road, while frantically pedalling, push starting, kick starting, etc, I kick it and it goes flying.

I've also had problems with the filter coming off the rubber mount.

Had a moby with a plastic screw on airbox thing. Twas about the only thing that didn't vibrate off.

I like screw on air filters a lot. One of my fav carbs is the amal series 'n I've never had the stock air filter fall off.

Re: Screw-On Air Filter - Do They Fall Off?

Full T and Jonathan,

Good to know. I was worried that the air filter would fall off miles away. I'm looking at a $20 Malossi filter from Treatlands, which would be sweet, as long as it stayed on. Joe

Re: Screw-On Air Filter - Do They Fall Off?

put thread lock on it

Re: Screw-On Air Filter - Do They Fall Off?

Pat, don't think thread lock will work. The carb fitting is metal, and the air filter body is plastic. Thread lock is for metal to metal.

Re: Screw-On Air Filter - Do They Fall Off?

Once you have the filter in place drill a small hole through the filter plastic and the carb body for a set screw of similar size .

Re: Screw-On Air Filter - Do They Fall Off?

That's a good idea. The carb body doesn't have an appropriate flange for a screw, but using that idea I could safety wire the filter on. Thanks.

Re: Screw-On Air Filter - Do They Fall Off?

That is precisely the malossi air box I had on a moby.

Re: Screw-On Air Filter - Do They Fall Off?

That filter sux. I've been using the polini airbox with the screw on adapter. Never had that part come off. One of mine did fall off and got ran over by a car and was totally fine after, very impressive.
