BITURBO CHAMBER. NEED HELP!!

Tim Salter /

i have a bore kit on my tomos which up until recently has been running fine. The bike started to pop and sputter at high speed, which has happened before, do to the biturbo leaking. I found that there was a large break in the meatl right where the center bracket holds it onto the moped. I was able to seal up the hole by welding it. However, this did nto full fix the problem. I am almost posotive that it is not leaking any where, because i just put a new gasket in, and sealled the hole, and yet it still sputers very little at high speeds. Is it possible that i somehow changed the internal dimensions or something that would be causing this? i would appreciate some help on the subject, because i may end up buying a new pipe, if i cant get it to stop sputtering.

prolly not the pipe

The first thing I would do is pull off the silencer (little muffler on the end) and run it... any difference?

Then I would buy a brand new spark plug and run that... any difference?

If neither of those work >>

Then I would pull off the gas line to the carb and make sure it flows good.... good flow?

Then I would take the carb off and clean it correctly....and run it...... still bad?

Then I would clean and set the ignition points correctly...(if you have points.. I think it does)

You did not harm anything by welding a crack in the pipe...(unless you stepped on the pipe and crushed it to half its diameter... and I'm sure you didn't)

About 95% of all moped problems are

clogged carb

dirty, misadjusted points

old spark plug

The odds of your problem being the pipe is about 1000 to 1 ...(unless the silencer is clogged)

the only reason i believe its the pipe, is that it did the same exact thing when it leaked at the end of the header pipe

the only reason i believe its the pipe, is that it did the same exact thing when it leaked at the end of the header pipe. it only sputters at top end

RE: BITURBO CHAMBER. NEED HELP!!

It sounds like you're running a bit rich, try cleaning the airfilter.

it has no airfilter!

It's not the pipe!

Well the bad running is NOT the pipe... a pipe has no moving parts... there is nothing to go wrong unless the muffler clogged... or the pipe mount up at the cyl has gatten very loose...or the pipe has been crushed.

The bad running is from the other stuff....points and/or carb

RE: It's not the pipe!

well tomos have NO points! it's all electronicaly controlled.well exept for older models of the a3 engine. it might be the carb. turn the bike on and run your hands down the pipe. (be VERY VERY careful not to touch the pipe it is extremly hot!!! i would know i've burnt my leg twice and my hands once) if you feel air coming out there is a hole. then if there is none put your hands by the cylinder where the pipe meets the head. if exaust comes out there then it is leaking. also another way to check for leaks is stuff a rag in the end of the pipe and it should leak out the big circle thing in the back. if it leaks out the cylinder too then there is a leak up there. tighten your bolts. if it lkeaks anywhere alse weld it.

hope this helps

ps if it is not the pipe it is the piston getting too small in the cylinder or the cylinder widening. this is very very bad. u will need a new cylinder or piston or both.

RE: It's not the pipe!

the kit was put on a bout a month ago, so i dont think the piston or cylinder are worn. i use racing quality 2-stroke oil. The only reason i think its the pipe is that it did the same thing once before, when the pipe leaked. however, as far as i can tell, the pipe isnt leaking, and i have played with the screws on the carb and im positive it has nothing to do with the mixture.

RE: It's not the pipe!

ok then try the thing i said in my last post to see if it is leaking anywhere else
