I would like to install a tachometer on my PA50II Honda Hobbit, that has a points ignition. Can someone please tell me what would be the best tach to buy and how to install it. Thanks Jack.

Cardboard , for that deeper , throatier tone . ;)
I'm experimenting with one of these.

Or this,

Thanks for the info. The reason for the tach is to set the idle speed. I have a hard time hearing and need to rely on a tach to get it close. Will this economical tach work on a point ignition? Thanks Jack
I think these all "sense" from a wire wrapped around the spark plug lead. There are strobe type tachs available but probably more money.
Those of us with most of our hearing left take it for granted. Try that last inexpensive one. Should be good for you. (edited)
No need for a tach to set the idle speed!
Warm up bike/engine
Increase idle speed until the drive clutches start to engage
Reduce idle speed until clutched stop trying to "grab"
Job done.
Mike
Yea tach for idle? Your bonkers. Just set it low but not so low your light is too dim.
I have a few of these. Work well

THIS one has the lighted screen,Frank. I'll never put an unlit accessory on a bike again.
Dratv use to have a ton of 1970's bar mount analog tachometers. Had one on my magnum. Wish I had kept it...

I bought one of those only to find mine wasn't updated real time but about every 4 seconds not much good unless you were at steady revs

Every 4 seconds? Well that's crap. Thanks for the heads up. The one I bought from Dos is still entertaining.
