IN OR OUT?

Paul Boyer (OFMC) /

Well for the first time in years I do not own a moped. Today a young lady & her Dad are driving 4 hours (from Ottawa) to pick up my beloved Maxi.

I sold my Ruckus & my lovely wife sold her Honda Giorno as well. My wife has recently been diagnosed with Degenerative Retina Disease so we decided to sell all the bikes that do not have passenger seats. We enjoyed riding our little bikes together but those days are gone. Chrystal however, still wants the thrill of being on a bike. So she will be my passenger on my Suzuki SV650 & I bought a fully restored 1966 Honda CM91 Cub with a passenger seat & pegs. I know...not a moped & not 2 stroke.

Anyhow I have over 1000 posts in the MA & this is my favourite site. My question is: Am I still in the MA or am I out?

It's up to you. In 1 week I will count the responses. Majority rules.

Re: IN OR OUT?

Once you are a member you are for life no matter what you sell or what you are left with. Out of all the sights I go to this one has the best people and the funniest responses.

Good luck with the wife. Very sad.

PS Love the Honda.

Re: IN OR OUT?

Paul, you'll always be welcome here, as well as the Old Farts Moped Club (OFMC). This place is like the Hotel California....You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!

Best of luck! (edited)

well....i suppose u could hot melt glue a set of peddles on the cub.

or you could put a monster 2 stroke chamber on it

then & only then will u be truly a mopeducus-amungus, (that's fancy Latin speech)

because then our spy camera's eye will be fooled enough.

gopro the sight times u have & the audio will bring u back.

my grandfather was blind & his other senses were very keen & he seemed to be in good spirits.

plenty of visitors could help.

keep in touch as much as ever......Brent

Re: IN OR OUT?

Sorry to hear of your wife's problem , but , its good she wants to keep the spirit .

No pedals is no reason to abandon us . Just the same as your wife not abandoning the spirit of riding because her level of sight is changing .

Everything changes , always . Maybe you'll find reason to be here more often than before . ;)

Re: IN OR OUT?

'Lar is right, "you can never leave" :) That Cub is beautiful! There are people here who only own no-peds, so..., but really none of this is too serious! My best to your wife.

Re: IN OR OUT?

U can still mix a little oil in the gasoline, get it smoking good. ;) Nice and clean bike. It’s bigger and more solid than a moped, that’s not a bad thing. So it has a 4 stroke 90 ? I can’t see anyone on a ped NoT wanting to check it out. Coo!

Re: IN OR OUT?

Paul, hope the best for you and your Mrs..to have a partner to share your passion is rare. I'm just a newbie here, but I feel all your friends have your back. Keep busy here Bud!

I would vote just to keep the 4T stuff in off-topic. But I don't see why you wouldn't be welcome here just because of a lack of a moped.

Also have you considered a moped with a big seat and rear pegs? It might be fun

Re: IN OR OUT?

Are there any supplements that will help with that disease Paul? There are some great natural remedies out there for some vision disorders. I hope she beats any gloomy prognosis that is given her.

Welcome here any time, Paul. if you can put up with us.

This, a Moby 50v will haul 2 depending on the size of the 2..lol, mine has issues moving me..lol. more the bike being old...but I have gained a bit over the yrs, a Honda Passport is a good 2up city ride as well. Not moped, but a great bike, like a more modern Cub. Don't overthink this "scene". It is all about riding.

Re: IN OR OUT?

I used to haul pillion passengers on my Streetmate all the time, including one guy who was probably about 300 lbs. Running a kit, pipe, and beefier, longer shocks, that is. There's so much room on that seat, I'd lie down and take a nap on it.

You should've kept that Trotter, and your profile pic, is as outdated as mine is. Never change it.

I'm also retired from peds. At 78.5 it's a vision and balance matter, I wouldn't want to hurt anybody. I agree, though, that two up on a Moby is a good idea, one to watch over the ped while one walks away for help.

We have two two strokes, a Metro and a 40mph Vino, easy to start, dependable toilet bowls. Still enjoy reading the posts here.

Ha ha! :) My Motobecanes have been very good to me, engine wise...the odd electrical issues...lighting mainly, but always run, start easy. Switchgear is shit though.

Re: IN OR OUT?

I have to confess,I still have mine and use it,but I have had to get back to some other bikes to get going and a old camper to fix up. I don't know how I found the time to work bfore, but I am just getting old and slow. I put a 125cc in a ct 90,that will haul 2 easy and has 8 speeds.

Definitely in! No brainer. Experience is priceless

Thou shalt be a mopeder for the remainder of your mortal lifetime. Remain on MA.

Re: IN OR OUT?

everyone is always welcome on the forums, being 'In' by my standards means spending time with moped folks face to face, riding with a club, going to a rally, etc.

lots of folks come around to moped events without mopeds. I went through about a 2 year period where i didn't have any mopeds running and legal... came to moped rides on my DT50 or TW200.

Being in means being active, you can stay plenty active riding a cub.

Re: IN OR OUT?

i've noticed a lot of different ride choices on MA...

and a lot of different riggs ridin' w/groups , it's all good

@Jerry- great jab on mobys. Lol

Re: IN OR OUT?

I tell this story a lot, but I started on a cub. actually just realized that of all the vehicles I've ever owned in my life I put by far the most on my cub (almost 17k). next closest maybe my bicycle. never had a car more than 3 yrs tho.

I was on the atl moped email lists, but I missed the first ride of what would become the swoops cuz I thought my cub wouldn't fit in. went riding with a friend instead and passed everyone. Got back and the emails were all about "hey did yall see the dude on the cub? Why don't he ride with us!"

then I did.

Re: IN OR OUT?

If it's originally been a 50cc or close, it's well-documented here that NO-PEDS are accepted while sprinkled in.

A ride of Honda cubs dominating the numbers, in my opinion, would not be a moped ride at all.
