What are you doing this winter?

Been stuck inside my work shop waiting for the snow to disappear.

I got a chance to work on my chopper chopper. I'm going to paint it Rasta colors

What are you working on over the winter?

Re: What are you doing this winter?

I'm rebuilding a magnum for my wife. Odds and ends left to do and the first start quickly approaching. Starting to get excited!

I have more projects than imaginable, but trying to focus on these.

Building up a Sacre-motor Grande. Currently still waiting on the subframe to arrive from Italy.

IMG_20190211_203911.jpg

Also building my Kinetic Soni 2 (big-wheel Ciao) with Malossi RV/Pinasco motor.

And slowing getting this Cagiva Elefant 2 ready for the spring.

On top of that I'm fine tuning a my Chappy, waiting on the pipe to come in for my Vespino, and building up like 10 bikes for the spring sale season.

I can't say i love those 3 star mags on there....but the paintjob is very cool. Very clean.

Not working on any peds this winter, but I've been cleaning up a 2005 Vespa GT 200 scooter that I bought from the original female owner for $1k. It has only 7300 original miles on it. She even threw in two new helmets and a battery tender. I've had to replace a few of the reflectors, but that's about it. Took her out for a ride last week and she ran great.

Re: What are you doing this winter?

Brandon, I admit I did cheap out on the wheels. The paintjob was a way to personalize the bike for her. She's a knitter, so she made up a pattern and i sprayed through it to get that effect. She now has a one of a kind look.

That's a very cool method! Being fabric, does it pull away cleanly after you spray?

Re: What are you doing this winter?

picked up this 1984 XR100 for $250 , replaced then bent handle bars, got new grips, cleaning out the tank, got the carb all cleaned up, changed the rear tube, and most else is just aesthetic or maintenance.

Planning on some paint work for the Magnum as well, still working on wiring up the turn signals

Re: What are you doing this winter?

Nothing special . Just regular maintenance .

Re-ring the FA50 , change oils ...

The carb insulators on the XT350 had dried out and came apart , so , I 'rebuilt' those .

Lots of exciting stuff . ;)

Re: What are you doing this winter?

^ there are cheap china knockoffs for those xt350 carb manifold/boots. they are like 25 a pair but you gotta wait for them to ship from china.

quality and fitment was good, i was happily surprised

Just started work on this pretty fresh barn find maxipooch- i'm calling her 'minty' for now, 4000 miles but damn near showroom clean- original tires and everything.

going to do a super basic old school stock ported build, its already got the 'good' 2 hp high torque, pretty much best of everything on this sport mk2. pulled the motor off to clean it up and replace pucks, going to port the cylinder, and run a proma GP. grease wheel bearings, fork sliders, brakes, etc etc. I've got this and a 'stock' vespa this summer for putting around town or if anyone comes to visit me. Try to get a couple of my friends in town into riding mopeds, always good to have some nice clean stockers laying around.

Re: What are you doing this winter?

It peeled ok. I let it dry completely to not smudge it. The fabric did leave a few small hairs but nothing a few swipes with a fine scotchbrite pad before the clear didn't take care of.

Dillon...that's a front end i need to do to my moby.

what did you use for it, the the travel looks like 8''?

bark busters are very smart on so many levels.

did it mate up with the goose neck easy?

They're just hydro EBR's (get them on treats) I have getting prepped for my Grande/Sacre build. I will say the EBR Hydros don't have more than 3.5-4" travel and are fairly stiff. They're Magnum length/sized but I'm pretty comfortable retrofitting any moped fork amongst other mopeds.

The bark-busters were just some NOS Acerbis ones I had laying around so I through them on there. There is a good chance I may just to go with something way more robust for that build as I think I might need it for the "speeds" it will be reaching.

Re: What are you doing this winter?

I am fixing up this `fixer upper`this winter, but my bikes are all okay.

Glad everyone is getting that satisfying feeling that comes from working with a half-broken ped and making it into a great runner.

Disappointed in MopedLar though. Ain't nothin that'll take that snail look off that thing he's workin on. LOL!

Josiah and I have been working to get my bikes from the garage and out to the road ASAP so that our journey goes smoothly.

So far we've replaced a condenser, cleaned points, cleaned up, got spark plugs, replaced clutch stuff, and destroyed my garage. Oh wait, He got me yelled at several times, that's what's been happening. In all seriousness, It's been going ehhh, just like mopeds be do.

I saw those and wondered about quality .

I ended up reshaping the metal flanges . I just chucked them up on a drill press and took the angle off and then went in a bit to have the reverse .

You might guess that the revised version should hold the rubber portion of the insulator a bit better .

Have you ever seen a replacement gas tank for them ? (edited)

Re: What are you doing this winter?

built a new E50 for my magnum. Treats 70cc kit, treats tomos A55 CDI, treatmetric clutch, some random used aftermarket crank with new bearings, needle bearing clutch bell, pull start only.

Shiny!

IMG_20190202_084424_9.jpg

Its wet. WTF won't it start?!

IMG_20190203_101553_9.jpg

My engine running pic is too big...should do high 40s. gettin close to being ready for first ride and then clutch tuning.

The engine we took off? Entire clutch assembly went in the trash. Head base gasket was leaking. HPI ignition may have been starting to go out (randomly stuck at 25mph). pipe is cracking but it'll have todo for now. (edited)

Is it the camera or does that head have heat dispersant on the inner fins ?

Uhhh... so I took it out of the box and slapped it on. Its a treats 70cc low-comp head. I don't know why it looks different from the cylinder on the outside.

Maybe a little unplanned bonus . ;)

You're looking at it all wrong, Don. Doesn't look like a snail at all to me...
