Gilardoni 47mm reed kit speed expectations

Alan Jackson /

my m50 sports is 187 pounds dry weight compared to a maxis 87 pounds

plus I weigh 14 stone - 196 pounds

so am I gonna see the 60 plus mph out of my kitted bike with mediocre exhaust?

or is the weight gonna mean I aren't gonna see those speeds unless I do some porting and get a good pipe?

I am now getting 47mph into a head wind and 54mph back wind (but it was still accelerating prob to 57?)

Re: Gilardoni 47mm reed kit speed expectations

You'll probably need a decent exhaust to get 60+ mph

There are a very limited amount of people running Puch M50/Monza's in the states, so I don't think they will be able to comment directly.

But the Gila is a reknowned stump puller when set up right. Get a good pipe, gear out and make the clutch do the work for you.

Or just buy a motorcycle. You will likely spend way less

Yes, you can get an M50 4 Speed to 60 wihtout a serious Pipe.

I weigh 14 stone too.

But my xk magnum bike with 2 speed auto Za50 engine on it weighs a lot less then your shifter bike.

I got cheep estroil pipe and tm24 carb and 8 petal reed cage, k&n filter and my bike goes 55-60 mph and has for years

So 50-55 mph is a good speed for reliability with smaller carb and cheep pipe

Why make your bike go super fast so it just blows up ?

wow that's impressive acceleration!!!

I was just wondering if the total weight might hold me back

I like the idea of a bike that can do 65 then tootling along at 50 is no strain

I learned a long time ago motors don't last half as long if you thrash them all the time

I just didnt want to get my sights set on 60mph plus if my weight was too much

and tri-ped dave, ive already got 4 motorcycles (nothing special mind) plus the puch

edit

lol tri-ped dave just read your profile and here's me bragging about numbers.... (edited)

Re: Gilardoni 47mm reed kit speed expectations

jeez i was thinking of this kit for a Puch City, id have been over the moon with 45! let alone 60, it apparently has an airsal kit fitted at the minute (not looking at it till Tuesday) but i think ill go get this gilardoni kit, and a better pipe, it has a biturbo type affair on it at the minute, some port matching . i don't expect ludicrous speed for a 74cc bike.. i got far bigger bikes for that. but to keep up with traffic and be able to pull away cleanly.. yep

Never ran a 4 speed but I would sure hope you could do 60 with ease.
