Sure man, you're right. They're definitely so different being small displacement motorcycles from the same manufacturer, both based on the same powerplant.
The grom looks like a mini adventure bike. The Cub looks like a roided out moped. Groms are for preppy vloggers... its a different market. If you cant see that i cant help you.
Do you feel safe on that 250 on the freeway? WOT is about 70 right? They drive like effing idiots in the Bay Area so I don't know if I'd feel safe on one. Was thinking about a Rebel because it's about the only thing short enough for me. And yeah, I'd have to learn shifting, but I don't have a problem with trying to learn.
Yeah, i feel alright in the slow lane. It holds 60-65 alright, 70+ seems like your straining the engine. Granted i regeared it taller... and weigh 220. Stock gearing at 65 seems like your pushing it. The bike really needs a 6th gear but what can you do. I rode my buddies Ninja 250 a couple times and it is for sure the better bike. I got my Nighthawk 250 from a police auction for $450... titled and all. It was an ex trainer bike. So i dont complain much.
Shifting is no biggie, youll catch on soon. If you have the choice consider an Ninja 250 or maybe a newer style rebel. Or... if you find an older Rebel 450 that might be worth a try. I havent personally rode one to really know but i would image the cruising speed is a bit better. The rebel & nighthawk 250's are easy as pie to work on. Sure the 1 carb turds it done some but no syncing and they are easy to clean.
eh i used to daily a TW200 on the freeway in austin,
Another bike in need of a 6th gear. Those big tires on it also create some drag. Im impressed you got 65mph out of it.
I dunno what kind of motorcycle you would have to ride to 'feel safe'. Its like working on a roof, you do it for awhile and you normalize the fear.
True, however these bikes lack any real kind of passing or get the hell out of the way power at 65-70. I just pull to the side and slow down when someone is tail gating me on the freeway.
You can get an adrenaline rush doing a buck 40 in and out of traffic on a liter bike, or you can get it from white knuckling 70 mph on a 20 hp enduro.... I can only afford one of the two.
Ive always been intrigued with the idea of buying what you need. I like the idea of getting around on a small bike i got cheap. I have as much fun on it as most people do on big sport bikes... granted im pass the point of wanting to do 200mph on the freeway.
