Puch Maxi Gas Tank Inspection

Angry Hipster /

So I decided I wanted a look inside of my Puch Maxi that has been laying up since 1982. It wasn't quite easy and I had to fashion a tool out of a web cam. Basically I took one apart, rigged some string lights to it, and taped it to a stick lighter (Don't light it, lol)

Here's a pic of my rig:

And here is a video of my capture

Luckily, all looked well. I'll run some gas through it, and install a fuel filter just to rinse out that cobweb, lol. (edited)

I forgot to mention that I shoved a bunch of string lights in the tank to brighten things up a bit. Which is why you see them in the video.

Wow that's the cleanest maxi tank I've seen. All the ones I get are rusty crap

Also if anyone else is going to do it, make sure to wrap the unit in electrical take so the circuit board doesn't short out when it touches the metal tank.

Re: Puch Maxi Gas Tank Inspection

If your tank is that clean a quick glimpse in the tank should suffice.

I've seen tanks clean at the top but full or rust and sticky brown crap at the bottom like tar.

So without a thorough inspection that tar crap gets mixed with fresh gas and then the float needle sticks and all sorts of stupid problems arise. (edited)

You could probe that tank with an endoscope from the exhaust pipe.

I showed this to my brother & he said, wow, we could have used that to see the holes in the bottom of the Maxi tank. We're getting one!

The thing is @ 16.5 foot long this could be used for almost anything like looking in walls, pipes or chimney of a house, exhaust, cooling system or body panels of a car, not to mention combustion chambers of any motor via spark plug hole.
