Wrench

I've got a 36mms open end I'd like to thin down to fit behind the freewheel sprocket so I can replace it. Any suggestions on how to mill it down?

Re: Wrench

I've done that to wrenches on the side of a 12" grinding wheel. Don't have to be perfect just close.

Re: Wrench

Bench ?

Re: Wrench

Yes a bench grinder.

Get some oven mits too.

Re: Wrench

I'll use the old lady's silicon mitts!

Re: Wrench

Grinding with either a bench grinder, or an angle grinder will work.

(done loads myself over the years by either method)

however, go slowly. If you steam into it to fast, you will make the metal too hot and it will loose its hardness.

Grind for a few seconds, then cool in bucket of water.

Just grind/dip/grind/dip/grind...………………………

If it glows orange or goes blue you going too heavy!!!!!

Re: Wrench

Belt sander works pretty good , too . ;)

Re: Wrench

I tried hand sanding earlier..didn't cut it. OK go slow, cool in water, intermittently, don't overheat. Thanks guys, appreciate it.

Re: Wrench

I've made thin wrenches for bicycles and hook spanners for bearing retaining nuts using a metal cutting band saw and an old lawnmower blade. Good hard steel.
