With your face ground off , vision might not be much of a concern .

Re: What Helmets Do You All Wear?

I'd rather see the dangers surrounding me, as a cyclist i'm used to assesing dangers and acting on that. All the crashes i was in (bicycle and moped) i've never landed on my chin.

YET . ;)

Re: What Helmets Do You All Wear?

People that say full faces obstruct their vision are probably trying on poorly fitting helmets

Re: What Helmets Do You All Wear?

Of course this thread devolved into people arguing full face/half helmet/no helmet.

I've worn HJC for 6 or so years, I'm on my second one. They've been good in the past but my next helmet will be a different brand. I feel like their quality has slipped a little. Air scoop thingies breaking off quickly and whatnot.

I also realized on a ~1k mile moto trip recently that HJC does not fit my head shape. I think I have what they call a "long oval" head shape, so the rounder HJC starts to really hurt my forehead after a few hours. I'd like to try one on in-store to check the fit, but the Icon Airmada seems like it would work well for me. Nice quality, no stupid angles or flaps or designs, fits long oval heads, and around 200 bucks.

I had the same problem with HJC.

Try Shoei that's what I went back to wearing on sport bikes.

I have worn a couple of Arai helmets and they were comfortable and lighter than most anything else. Pricey though.

Better ditch that "Darth Vader helmet" before you die!

Re: What Helmets Do You All Wear?

ICON Airmada. as the name implies, lots of vents. Referring to its ability to prevent heat stroke, its the coolest helmet ive owned.

for you full face naysayers, you're not gonna want one until you smack your face on something. i did at <5mph in a 3/4 with the full-face visor down and saw stars; definitely a minor concussion. The cheap full face fulmer helmet i was wearing for my motorcycle wreck prevented a concussion. (edited)

Re: What Helmets Do You All Wear?

Just wondering- what would be considered "ATGATT" for mopeds?

Funny you should mention Darth Vader.

Was looking and couldn't find much that appealed to me.

At my age, I'm very much used to cagers not seeing me. Have had dark colored helmets and two black Hayabusas over the course of my life and never really noticed color being a factor. Headlights sure, that's why I drive with the high beam on in the daytime. I suppose it could help in certain circumstances to have a brightly colored helmet on....like with slow moving peds.

Was actually thinking about some art work on that cheapo helmet I posted above.

jacket, gloves, helmet, pants, boots that cover my ankle bones. this particular jacket is perhaps a bit much, but i also have a scooter that'll do 50mph. my magnum isnt stock.

DSC_0293.JPG

im not trying to drag my knees or do wheelies/jumps so i dont get too crazy. i wear a mesh jacket and sometimes shorts in the summer, depending on how hot it is. i will also tone down the gear when i get my Solex maxxed out at 18mph.

Re: What Helmets Do You All Wear?

I've been down at 5 MPH or less . It ain't fun and did cause damage could / should have been avoided by proper gear .

That's not saying anything about the level of embarrassment . LOL

Re: What Helmets Do You All Wear?

"Proper" gear consists of sandals shorts and t shirt

If I get run over again I hope I don't live through I'm still in pain from the first time

Re: What Helmets Do You All Wear?

the new HJC RHPA 11 pro is an insanely good helmet for cheap.

It's DOT and ECE approved GP level helmet for ~$400-ish which is like half of any comparable helmet.

I'm about ready for a new track day helmet and I'm either going with the HJC or I'll ball out on a Kenny Roberts Replica Arai which is obviously the raddest helmet currently on the market

I bought a Bell Qualifer last year. Nice cheap helmet. Its been pretty comfy, no complaints there. Make sure you size your head properly when buying a helmet and read reviews!

FYI i prefer full face as i have landed on my chin. It does happen.

If you get a decent helmet that wont be an issue.

30mph generates a lot of force. Plenty to break your arms if you were to try that maneuver. But the odds are in a crash you probably wouldn't have time to think about doing it. So in answer to your question—no.

Modular helmets have more weight, and more things to fail in a crash. They have built in weaknesses, all for the convenience of an unnecessary feature.

Then get a motocross helmet.

With a proper helmet this isn't an issue. You are basically regurgitation made up FUD that has been propagated for decades. Quality modern helmets provide excellent visibility.

Bright color helmets are much easier to see—even on a Hayabusa. They significantly improve your chances of survival. Running the bright during the day also improves your chances.

The reason to not wear something like that Vader helmet you posted is that it's likely to catch on something a wrench your neck.

Being use to not being seen is no guarantee that they wont hit you. Honda Civic drivers are very clever when it comes to hitting riders.

Wearing gear isn't about dragging your knee, or stunting. It's about protect yourself against dangers for which you have no control: like Honda Civic drivers. They don't generally cruise around at 18 mph. And they don't care if you are only wearing shorts, and a T-shirt. They will happily not see you, and run you down no matter what you are wearing. This is why it is of vital importance to wear gear to protect you from these instances—no matter what you are riding.

I'm more afraid of SUV drivers talking on cell phones or texting. My fav is a white AGV. I like white cause dark helmets are hot inside.

My buddy had one and it saved his noggin when he was riding his harley and an old lady pulled out right infront of him while making eye contact. took a big smack to the head. helmet cracked but his head was fine and he walked away.
