I'm in the market for a new helmet so I'd love recommendations and links to where you suggest purchasing.
Full face .
If I want wind in my face , I leave the helmet home . Why go half way ?
I always wear a full face, as I like to feel the wind in my face.
Full Face with a Clear Screen with a Bill
Super Hot Days I have a SkidLid
shoei rf1100, they're on the 1200 series so you can get the 1100 for cheaper now.
if it's hot out, i soak my neck scarf tube thing in cold water before i ride, it also helps reduce the redneck sunburn.

There may be some confusion as to what style of helmet is what .
Just so everyone is on the same page :

I just wear some safety glasses. I get alot of grief from my gf about it but fuck it we only live once I do drive safely. (edited)
Simpson street bandit is reasonably priced for a full face with flip visor, DOT and SNELL

I use to have a few of those shiny things . I never had a decent place to display them .
They've long since disappeared in to obscurity .
I wear a cheap open face from walMart with a face sheild thingy. I cant do full face. I know its safer but I'm very claustrophobic.
I just bought a leather riding jacket. Its too hot to wear now but I'm hoping I won't look too stupid going 25mph with an armored jacket. 60 bucks from a guy on CL and it didn't smell like cigarettes!
Same as CHIPs wore in their show,I think. Half shell open face.
I been using a Smith snowboarding helmet. Need to upgrade but a full face helmet seems silly at 27 mph. Wrecked at way higher speeds snowboarding but that's all well and good until a car hits you I guess...
Probably getting a 3/4 down the road.

Seems to me that asphalt is a bit harder and maybe more abrasive than snow . ;)
Just remember that it's not a question of IF you'll go down , it's a question of WHEN and how hard , at what angle . That begs the question of exactly what will stop you when you do your uncontrolled free fall . Maybe a simple sliding or maybe a tree or worse the added adventure of going over a cliff or ...
Ya Don't Dress For the Ride
Ya Dress For The Slide
Whatever helmet you get be sure it has a "snell foundation" sticker on it, dot means shit for safety. save the brain.
you should read up on helmets here
3/4, half dome, popups are all costume helmets—save them for your cosplay action. If you want to wear something that's going to protect your noggin, then get something that's full face, and not made out of plastic.
If you can't afford an expensive helmet then get a close out. That way you'll get a quality helmet at a nice price.
Several of the newer designs are including multiple impact levels, plus rotational protection. The new Bells actually have three layers of compression material. One of the biggest issues with Snell is that it only protects you from very high force impacts, but at low impacts it can cause nearly as much damage because the compression material is too hard. By having different layers you get multiple zones of protection.
The axial protection helps to keep from wrenching on your neck when the helmet impacts.
Just because it has a DOT, or Snell sticker on it doesn't really mean shit—most of these standards are horribly out of date. Do your research.
The most important aspect of the helmet though is that it must fit your head. If it doesn't fit it wont protect you properly.
Probably the second most important aspect is to get something bright so the idiots on the road can see you. All of the florescent helmets are great. White helmets are fairly visible. Pink has proven to be the best color for all environments, because it's basically not naturally occurring—thus it stands out. Sure black looks sexy as fuck, but dead doesn't. People can't see dark helmets so unless you want to actually look like Darth Vader under his helmet get something bright.
Here's another video on choosing gear:

I own one of those Scorpion xo1s Fortnine recommends. Got it on sale for 68 dollars. It looks like the EVA -01 from Eva color wise.
I want the Sena Momentum. Build in and fully integrated Bluetooth is the future.
I get it, I just mean that I like to feel the wind in my face. With anything less than a full face, I risk ever having that feeling again, as it's difficult to feel it without a lower jaw and relate facial parts!
me and usually like 10% of the kids at the rallys i go to wear biltwell gringos. they're a cheap/decent bash helmet. not so good for really fast, but i like them. i've had a few of them. they last well. the insides velcro out pretty nice and is machine washable. i haven't "put one to the test," but they feel pretty solid. no "snell," but well under 200$.

Same. Probably time for a replacement on mine but it still feels great.
A full face helmet obstructs my vision which in my opinion is worse than the "safety" it provides.
Haven't worn one in years
Those are the only two that survived the (ex) as she threw the others away....

I figured YOU did .
I posted the difference just to be sure and for the sake of some of the new folks that might not know the difference between a helmet and a spark plug . ;)
I was thinking of getting a open face helmet this time. I mean its just mopeds, I can use my arms to stop my face from grinding on the ground. Right?
At most maybe I could get a modular. At 30 mph I would have plenty of time to flip the face part down if I see that I'm in trouble. Combine that with using my arms to hold my face away from the asphalt I wont scratch the chin part of the helmet.
