Motobecane Variator Cover Placement?

Might be a dumb question but I couldn't really find any info on it. Is there a certain way to place the variator cover onto the variator? I'm sticking it on but I don't think it's flush enough and the nut won't grab. Thanks in advance!

Do you have the correct one? One is for dimoby clutches and the other for variated ones? They are not the same.

I believe so. I picked up a 1976 Mobylette that had a broken variator. The guy took that variator off and bought a new one and had it in the box. Everything seems like it fits. I'm probably being overly cautious but I know it can take a special tool to get that part of the variator off once it's on there.
