Stolen Moped

Mitzi Okou /

Hi! My name is Mitzi. I live in Savannah, GA close to the historic district and I recently had my moped stolen and I’m talking earlier this week probably like two days ago. My moped is inoperable to the point where the wheels don’t even turn so it had to have taken and been carried by two people and put in a car because it couldn’t have been pushed anywhere or lifted because it’s extremely heavy. The model is a silver one seater 1979 motobecane. It has an M stenciled on the back and it has one pedal missing and no side mirrors. Like I said it is inoperable and I was saving money to get it fixed this weekend. I’m pretty sure it’s a rare bike and the only one in it’s kind in the area. If the thieves are in this area and they wanted to get it fix, I was hoping that motorcycles, scooters, and moped business would be on the look out. I also have the serial number if you guys need it. I’m kind of distraught because it’s something I love very much and I was looking forward to riding it again. Please please please if you guys could help and be on the look out, I would really appreciate it and I would appreciate any advice on how to handle a stolen moped. So far I reported it to the police and I don’t think that they’re gonna be a big help and I’m willing to do anything to get it back so please let me know what else I can do. Thank you guys so much for your time. Here’s what the model of my bike looks like. Mine doesn’t look as nice and new but it’s the same exact thing. Again thank you thank you thank you for your time.

Re: Stolen Moped

Mine was found around half a mile away.

Also, make flyers with a pic of the bike on it. that worked when parkers was stolen

Re: Stolen Moped

How long have you had it in non rolling condition...?

Re: Stolen Moped

Contact this guy in your town. He's a real street savy bad ass. Uses a sling shot that stings really bad to serve up justice.

I heard he once killed a couple guys.

With his ear to the ground your bike will soon turn up.

I just leave dead animals pinned to his door. Anything but cats...he's slightly allergic. You can also catch him at the local pizza dungeon DT. VVGG

Re: Stolen Moped

I PMed the info to you.

Re: Stolen Moped

I've found the best way to summon him is with a castor oil/ devil's lettuce smudge stick while reciting Journey lyrics.

Re: Stolen Moped

put a add on craigslist saying it was stolen with a pic.check all the apps,5 mile offer up letgo garage sale,I wouldn't think a pawn shop would take it non running, check ebay for parts in area, etc. good luck!!!

Just noticed you lived in Savannah. Do you mind being on the look out please?

Re: Stolen Moped

Click flatview, this will be much easier for you to read and respond to. File a police report, that way if someone tries to pawn it it will get flagged, also if they are caught riding it it will come up stolen. Are there any video camera's near where the bike was taken, they may have footage. Go out and look around, people often ditch them when they can't get them to run. Check with impound/tow yards, if it was left somewhere it may have gotten towed. Best of luck with recovery.

Did you make a police report?

Give people the VIN so if it shows up somewhere, someone can check it against what you give for the VIN.

Re: Stolen Moped

I found my stolen bike 4 days after it was taken in the thief's SUV, which was parked on a main road about a half mile away. Without police help, I narrowed down the daily patterns of the thief, his truck, his girlfriend, and ultimately, my bike (although, tbh, I thought I was screwed the entire time I was "hunting"). Some observations:

1. Moped thieves are opportunistic, and probably haven't thought the crime through too thoroughly (I mean, if I were going to commit a felony, I'd want to stand to gain more than a few hundred bucks). This is NOT a perfect crime; slip-ups are almost guaranteed. Ask anyone and any business nearby for surveillance footage. Maybe someone noticed a truck or van circling; go dig up evidence. Do this NOW before people forget details.

2. If this was taken from your home, the perpetrator probably lives nearby (i.e. you probably weren't cased, someone likely just noticed the bike while walking by for another reason). Who would normally walk within line of sight of the bike? Where would they be going?

3. Again, these crimes are almost never well planned. A buyer isn't lined up. This means that A) the thief probably still has possession of the bike, and B) he/she is hiding it because he/she doesn't quite know what to do with it. MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNOWS IT'S HOT. Put up posters, Craigslist ads, etc. This may force the thief to hold onto it (which hopefully keeps it close, and gives more time to slip up).

4. Finally, it doesn't run. Think about that - the thief likely doesn't know why it won't work; unless he/she is a 2-stroke pro, someone else will need to explain it to them. Mention this to mechanics, Autozone shops, gas station shops, etc. See if anyone's been asking strange questions about 2 strokes or "scooters."

Re: Stolen Moped

many times these get stolen, they are ditched on the side of the road nearby because the perp doesn't know how to start them. (especially a Moby with the decomp lever that they don't know exists)

look for craigslist, offerup, etc and anywhere close where they would have tossed it aside, near a road in a ditch or wooded area. Good luck

Re: Stolen Moped

Very good advice Alex! I sure hope you get it back Mitzi!!

Re: Stolen Moped

one time, someone stole like 5 bikes from me in one night. savannah will have it's due. your bike WILL get stolen here. my "mia" list includes: a mint 103. 2 tgb 101s scooters. my tomos, i got it back after a year or so, it was trashed. a kinetic tfr that was siezed and half taken apart. a garelli sxxl. a batavus starflite. my ciao got stolen, but i caught them a block away. probably at least 10 bicycles. my porsche 928 was taken from me without my consent....

savannah sucks for that...

I have one just like it that if you can get to Charleston SC to pick it up I'll give it to you for $100. It's been almost redone except for paint and a couple other things but it run really well. I have too many projects and you sound like you need/want it more than I do. Let me know what you think.
