Moped Groups in Germany

Hey there,

I'm moving to Hamburg early next year and with moving to hamburg I'm not gonna be able to be around my moped friends here in Oregon. I was wondering if anybody is aware of any moped groups in Germany that do group rides or rallies or anything. I'm taking a moped over and I know I'll buy a few there and I don't wanna be "all by myself in the father-land." I've searched the forums and I haven't come up with much. Also looking for advice on mopeds in general in Germany if anybody has any knowledge about that they would like to share.

Anything helps,

Conan

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

Get yourself a Simson S51 if you can. They are very popular, a little bit of ost kultur that seems to have spread. I've been wanting one since I saw a green one on my last visit. I know they are popular with teenagers because of the way the law works.

There are quite a few pretty active people on instagram who work on mopeds/mofas I'd suggest maybe contacting them. Off the top of my head I can think of one called Clarkes67 on who catalogs German vintage vehicles from the East, he might be a good start to get you in contact with people. How long are you staying?

Those bikes look awesome ill definetly keep my eye out and try to find one. Ive seen some of the instagram pages i think im going to message them once i get my bike over there and maybe purchase another there. Ill look him up and message him and see if he knows anything more that could help. Im staying for a year for sure on an "internship" work share program but i will probably ask to stay longer if i enjoy it alot.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

Thank you sir, thats very helpful and what i was looking for.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

I was in Mannheim for work for a while. I met a few folks and groups but mostly in the baden/Rhineland areas. Mofafreunden obergrombach I talked to mostly, they were by Karlsruhe which was a long scooter ride but I did rent a scooter for like 15 euro/day and rode down there.

Uber groms. heh. bach

and something monkeys and a couple fellas with Simson Schwalbe's with a skateshop outta Nuremburg

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

Max Ginsburg is from Hamburg, so he'll probably know Hamburgs mopeds ins n outs.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

That's pretty rad, I don't think Ill be down in the southern part of Germany much. But how was riding in Germany? Ill probably end up getting a scooter for commuting too and from the train station for work.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

Ill definetly send him a PM closer to when I leave I saw his account when I looked up moped riders in Germany and thought that he probably would know a little to get me started. Do you guys have rallies in the Netherlands?

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

We dont have rallies in the american way. I can get anywhere in the Netherlands within 3 hours and there are thousands of mopeds/riders in my town alone, so there is no need for multiple days of rallying.

We do have group rides but these are dominated by cranky old geezers on oldtimers that usually frown upon my puch maxi.

Your always welcome to come ride with me and my friends though and we already made some plans for our moped vacation next year, Hamburg is on the possibilities list.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

Old geezers and frowns are kinda my thing. hahaha

That sounds awesome! I might have to take a trip to the Netherlands when I get some free time. Yeah and if you're ever in hamburg once I get there feel free to stop by I'm sure Ill have some mopeds over there by then.

I own a Simson Schwalbe as well. Real love/hate relationship...

The ignition parts on those are terrible shit. Don’t ride it too much because it really is viciously unreliable. Rest of the moped is really very well build though, very sturdy. A nice ride and good power. But as it is quite heavy as well, not much fun to push ;)

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

hook him up with a florett bas.

what exactly is the teffli-rally?

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

I believe the kreidler market in germany is even crazier than over here. A florett wreck can sell for over 600€ nowadays. So with all the good cheap mopeds available i stay away from kreidlers at the moment.

The Töffli run is a dress up ride through the swiss mountains i think.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

I was just looking at one of those earlier kinda a cool little commuter seems like.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

The post river 2strokes did about those was one of the first posts I ever saw on here. Super clean and dope bikes.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

Thanks for the compliment mr. Bubbles, river2strokes has done a very nice job on my Florett. I took the summer off so still a little work left.

You should invest time researching plating/regging an american moped in Germany.

We had a couple come into a shop with a ciao that sat in storage in Germany for 5 years because they paid to ship it over and found out that they wouldn't be able to register or insure it there without extreme effort/cost.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

I have heard there are some places in Germany with very strict laws on mopeds. I believe in hamburg the laws are more relaxed and that it shouldn't take more effort than registering it here. i have all the paperwork and Imma register it in my name before i take it (title and insurance all the proper things). If worst comes to worst I just will ship it back when I come back here (I know shipping is normally alot but I dont pay for it the company I am going to work for is.) i still have a couple months before I leave if I find out that it is going to take an arm and a leg i will end up leaving it here, which would suck.

G OD D A M N thats sexy

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

Click "view flat" on the top of this page, it will open a whole new world of forummy goodness.

Also, from the things ive just read, importing a moped to germany is actually a pretty big hassle. With a non EU moped that isnt original your chances of getting it registered in Germany are pretty slim.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

Im bad at forums. Youre probably very right. Ill have a peek into it to make sure, but yeah if it is so, worst case I just dont take a bike.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

It will be great to meet you in Hamburg.

Sometimes there are some moped rallies.

I know a group https://www.facebook.com/49-Kubik-Rocker-535755516588453/ its in the North Germany, many of them are from Hamburg.

Usually they ride Simson mopeds, I ride an old Jawa-555 :)

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

Thank you Max, Ill definitely message you once I get to Germany in January. I was thinking of getting a jawa or a simson, so thats perfect. Hows the riding in hamburg? fairly flat ground or is it hilly?

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

In Hamburg it's usually flat, not really hilly.

The most issue is the weather - wet, clowdy, often rainy, so one has to wait for a good weather to ride a moped.

There are a lot of old and restored Simsons and a lot of spare parts.

Jawas are rare.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

Thats good to hear about the terrain.

Im usually used to wet weather riding unless its summer, in portland wet cloudy and rainy are our main weather patterns 3/4 seasons.

Ill start my search to look for a simons, seems like the "enduro" style i need.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

Its probably easier to get these

Simson n50 or ns50, you see them everywhere in Hungary and ive seen many of them in Germany so they should be pretty easy to find.

Re: Moped Groups in Germany

Bump because I leave in a week and a half. Anybody know any moped groups in Hamburg, Germany? I've been looking and there doesn't seem to be any but maybe somebody knows.
