Shipping woes

I just recently won a bid on a 77 puch, and now I'm starting to think I shouldent of bid on one so far away (PA). Does anyone have any suggestions on a good way to get it here (without going and getting it) that won't cost me an arm and a leg. (Yellow shipping wants to charge me 560 dollars, ack.)

Well, if I knew where "here" was.....mayhap I could tell ya.

<snicker>

I know it's unrealistic, but I just got this picture in my head of the nearest local moped dude picking it, and riding it to the next guy closest in your direction's house, and then that guy ridin it to the next one....

hahahahah - that'd be neat, but really.

There are ways to get a 'ped shipped cheaper than that, maybe.

RE: Shipping woes

i've used amtrak shipping services twice to ship a moped and both times it only cost $40 to ship it. you just have to get the seller to it off at an amtrak shipping center capable of heavy express and then you pick it up at another heavy express center. they supply the pallette to ship it on you just have to strap it securely to it (i bought ratchet tiedows from walmart). check www.amtrakexpress.com/stationdirectory.shtml for nearby HEX (heavy express)listings. if they don't do HEX than you're out of amtrak luck.

forwardair. you have to get it crated. cost me 53 dollars oklahoma city to new jersey.

RE: Shipping woes

Thankyou all for your suggestion, these are very useful. I specially liked the one about the network shipping of moped riders, very clever. I'll look into all of your suggestions. Thanks again.

(Since imma movin to Flint, I can toss it in the truck next to my two and drop it off, if we find a way to bring it back to here.)

RE: Shipping woes

if you do that, you have to swing by kalamazoo and have a coffee with some of us. get it here, and we will get it up to danf at msu.

RE: Shipping woes

HI, I had 2 mopeds shipped from Wisconsin to Virginia and that is longer distance, all in 1 moped crate/box and it only cost $65.00, Get a business that uses a carrier and the rates drop a lot. Company that delivered is out of New Jersey and called G.O.D. (no joke) took 3 days. DOUG D.

Lemme get moved and I will drop by, prolly won't be with my 'ped tho, but I might make the next large gathering y'all have in the spring or summer, hopefully on a Tomos Golden Bullet instead of this friggin Suzuki piece o junk.

RE: Shipping woes

I remember G.O.D. it's a great shipper, there used to be an office in kalamazoo, I'm not sure anymore. Old memories of a broken down truck with G.O.D. painted on the side from my childhood.
