Outboard 2-cycle Oil in My 2 stroke..

Nicholas Staples /

Hey Guys,

Didn't realize until after I filled up that I had mixed Outboard 2-cycle oil with my gas. 50:1 ratio said 16oz for 6gallons of gas, so I ended up going 2oz for .75gallon. Did I mess up? Seen some conflicting answers online.. Northeast USA for reference

Thanks!

Re: Outboard 2-cycle Oil in My 2 stroke..

outboard oil is fine. i run cheap pennzoil semi-syn outboard in my stock bikes and bikes with injectors.

2 oz to .75 gal is perfect

MMMMM? Not really. I mix heavy to be on the safe side and generally put 4oz per gallon if I'm running say LUCAS. I know, people give me shit for it a lot. Don't bum gas of me then mother fucker. I do not think you'll be in danger at that ratio you ended up at. If nervous dump in another couple oz in there and run it.

I'm really not sure why people say it's not good.

Like you're gonna run an outboard the same way you run a moped. Pretty much wot or at a steady throttle for long periods.

People argue that it's because mopeds aren't water cooled so they run hotter and that's bad for the additives or some shit. I dunno.

It has additives in it but those additives are to reduce carbon and emissions or some shit for the environment. I swear less carbon is good. like if less is leaving the exhaust, doesn't that mean less is being left in the engine too?

At any rate, I've run Pennzoil Marine outboard oil at 50:1 before for a few tanks; On my faster bike even. It worked 100% fine. I didn't run it for very long since it was mostly just to hold me over until my fancy oil came in.

Smells fuckin good though. Reminds me of being out on the boat.

Outboard oil and Lucas? heck yeah! My bike's two favorites

Re: Outboard 2-cycle Oil in My 2 stroke..

I recently picked up a gallon of Lucas clearanced @ Napa for $15.

May wanna check it out.

No fishing boats here. (edited)

All puch kits and Tomos a55 say to run synthetic 2 cycle oil so that's what I run

Amsoil Saber outboard oil all day... has a higher flashpoint then regular Saber

Re: Outboard 2-cycle Oil in My 2 stroke..

Pennzoil marine is all I run because I live by the coast and it's $20 a gallon.

Oh, and it doesn't burn up and scorch on like other oils do, and seems to work just fine in moped engines.

I do mix it at 32:1 just because it keeps everything nice and wet that way

Speaking of which:

Can you flip back and forth with mineral/semi syn to Klotz (caster oil semi syn)?

I recall the bikes in the UK (sump oil) being that once you went the Caster oil route, it was very bad to try to use mineral oil w/o a complete strip and clean out...

I love the smell of Klotz.

Dead on,Max! That's the ticket for a LONG-LASTING engine. Pennzoil Marine synthetic blend has never let me down or carbonned up anything I've run it in.

if there's one thing i've learned it's "just keep oil in the damn thing"

Re: Outboard 2-cycle Oil in My 2 stroke..

I once ran some regular 4-stroke 10W-30 oil in my moped and it ran fine. Not for very long, mind you; just a few miles to get it home after I ran out of gas and coasted into a gas station that was out of 2-stroke oil.

Re: Outboard 2-cycle Oil in My 2 stroke..

Another baby oil type debate.. just lost the 0.001% of faith i had left in humanity ><

Many engines run TC-W3 certification outboard and snowmobile oil w/o issues

Rant over.

Don't follow this advice. If you just add more oil you will be running lean. (edited)

"I'm gonna show you mathmatically"

*opens paper*

"It's only 2% more gas"

so then.... technically... it IS a richer mixture (in gasoline) when it's running through the jets, no? Yeah it might be negligible but still how can you say that it is not more fuel?!? but it's only 2% so it's the same cause numbers don't really matter and stuff.

What the fuck is this guy talking about? is he confused? this video is stupid.

"it's almost like people are trying to be smart" shut up.

Or is this all just an argument about what is actually getting richer in the mix blah blah blah. Fuckin nomenclature can eat my ass (edited)

Read the last sentence from the quote. Please don't just add more oil. A lot of people have problems and I wonder if it's from not paying attention to their ratio.

Re: Outboard 2-cycle Oil in My 2 stroke..

He may have been referring to the 6 gallons per 16 oz idea, not just dumping more oil in the tank? Just a thought. I run 32:1 as well, no issues, been using Yamalube, seems like quality stuff, I used to use Castrol 2T, could not find it for a while, my Moby's seem to LOVE that stuff, but at the auto-parts store today I found it, but it is now labeled for snowmobiles, says compatible with injection and pre-mix applications, so grabbed a quart, will see how it goes this summer. No matter what oil you choose, it is advisable to make your pre-mix in a separate can, shake well, and just fill up after every-other ride vs. mixing in the tank. They had those cute little bottles of Lucas too, grabbed one for emergencys.

I've been running Marine Pennzoil forever and my dad has on Vintage Vespa Scooters for the many years he has had them. Use a little less in the mix of it makes you feel better.
