Morini pacer or puch maxi?

Hi I'm new to mopeds. I m having a hard time choosing a moped. I can buy either a puch maxi well taken care of for $750.00 or a morini pacer in all right conditions, for $475.00.

My plan is to upgrade performance on either.

But not sure which bike would cost the most to do so, availablity on parts?

Ned help!!!!

I would say a Puch maxi with an E 50 motor on it is one of the best mopeds one can start with.... arguably the simplest motor to rebuild and maintain, and there are more parts available for it than any other moped, which I'm pretty sure also contributes to the fact that parts are very affordable as well.

It would have to be a really nice, really clean, low mileage and of course running Maxi to be worth $750 in my opinion. Post some pictures of your options!

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

Thank you, I thought $750 was high, but it does look very clean. Almost to a point that it looks like the person was trying to restore it. ill try to grab the pictures. Thank you again.

By chance do you the best way to make it faster?

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

pacer! because 750 is too much.

spend 450 and think of all that extra dough you can spend on dumb shit.

the pacer wont go as fast as the maxi or as easily as the maxi, but it looks "cool" and its a better deal.

I actually think maxis look better too, but that's a less common opinion, and as such, pacer'd probably be easier to resell if you wanna build something new

check the wiki on this site, theres a big writeup on performance in general. a typical order of operations might be:

new pipe

tune

new carb

tune

kit

rebuild

tune

ignition, better kit, lightened shit, clutches, better carb and intake, better pipe, suspension and brake upgrades, custom wheels and seat and tank and lights. paints, all the works

tune

porting?!

more tune

sell and start on something new.

of course you can always skip to kit pipe n carb party pack on treatland.tv - pretty easy setup for the maxi anyway.

the morini is less straightforward and not pre-packaged but you can get the same sorts of parts (w/ many fewer options)

Im assuming you can negotiate down from $750, right?

Post pictures of the exact bikes you are looking at, we'll go from there! :)

Maxi

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

How do you post pics on here , I have them saved to my phone?

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

If you look on the left youll see " Attach a file"

All pretty self explanatory from thereon.

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

I'd get the pacer if it's case inducted

As an owner of 3 Pacers with Morini engines, I say get the Puch. While Pacers are the most awesome bike ever made, unless you are prepared for such awesomeness you should go with a beginner level machine. Then as you go along and work your way up the awesomeness by getting an Italian Minarelli based bike like a gadabout. Then Finally as you reach enlightenment you can look at a Morini powered Pacer. ;)

Here's the pacer,

Let me know your thoughts.

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

From the first glance the puch is missing a front fender, air filter and side covers. Not crucial parts, but things i'd want if id pay that much for a maxi. Looks to be an unfinished restoration, def not worth 750$

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

That's what I negotiated. It's originally at $850.

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

Thank for the heads up, I wouldn't have even noticed that . I seen a lot parts for the maxi that's why I thought to go with it , but I don't want to get ripped off.

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

Parts for maxi's are plentifull, and those missing parts would set you back maybe 50$, but when you pay almost double what a maxi is worth you shouldnt have to spend another dollar.

Also click "flat view" on top of the screen, so it doesnt look like your talking to yourself.

IF IT RUNS, that Maxi is probably worth about $300, maybe $

Dont know why he thinks its worth 750...missing all the basic stuff..

That's a nice looking Pacer Deluxe. Its missing its foot rests but looks to be in good shape. Love the tank :D They changed out the tail light which isnt a big deal. Looks to be a 76 or 77. It has a stock Morini MO1 which is the piston port model.

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

Is it worth $450, and can it be upgraded easily to go faster?

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

Andrew Squiggman /

all the chrome on the maxi is painted. it was probably rusty. it will probably chip and fall off after a little use unless it was really prepped well and /or powder coated.

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

He said he did a paint job, new tires, lubed all parts, flushed ,fluids replaced. , and other stuff I cant remember.

Dont ever take anyone's word for it when it comes to repairs they've done. You gotta look yourself.

Rotate wheels, see if they spin freely and for how long...if they feel smooth or gritty.

Inspect all joints, cables...

Look inside fuel tank...

Test brakes...

Take it for a ride!

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

Ok for the puch ,

This is hat he says he did,

"He built more than a hundred mopeds just sold one to pro skateboarding Joe Guevara. He lives in San Jose.

New chains

New headlight

New seat

New paint

New decals

New tires

Engine drained new atf fluid installed

Clutch inspected

Points cleaned

Timing set

Hardwired so no pesky electric demons

Pedal shafts swing arm and steering bearings all ready greased

New rear wheel bearings

Gas tank cleaned and flushed."

Let me know puch or pacer?

Y'all are forgetting we on the West Coast over here. Take whatever you'd spend on a bike and add a hundred or two and that's us.

AP, the maxi is a better starter bike. Plain and simple. Try and talk the guy down as much as you can and go for that one, or wait and find another maxi.

For example, This rigid tail maxi might be a good option if you can get the guy closer to 500.

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

Original maxi n's (rigid frame) are worth about triple of what a maxi s is worth over here (at least the netherlands and belgium, and probably germany too) a good one goes for 600 to 800 nowadays.

So please start shipping them back so i can finally have one. (Ours were all destroyed by racers)

Of all those options though, that fresh maxi is the best. It's just expensive.

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

Thanks Tobias for the link, i think I just lost the puch , the guy got offended.

Re: Morini pacer or puch maxi?

Yeah probs a no go on the N for a first as far as too much awesome in a first bike

It's a rough ride and if you're more than 90lbs and not stock you will stress out the frame. All kinds of fun to be had welding on support but that's not newb level stuff. Minimal clearance underneath too.

I would wait for a better deal on the Maxi or another puch e50. (edited)
