Ree...Tomos help again

Ok heres the deal, i posted about this a few times but anyway...Its a tomos bullett, and this is what it does, it will start but not idle till it warms up, then once it warms up it will idle for like 30 seconds, and it will die if you dont start riding it and when it does die it takes like some many kicks to start it again....well this is what I think, A while back my friend gave me this moped to fix, it didnt have a spark, and I saw that the spark wire was connected to the coil by a screw some one put in there, so i took it out restripped the wire and put it back in and put the screw back in, now it sparks, I just tried to see how the spark was, it was a realllllly thin spark, and it didnt spark every turn, so I tested the spark on my batavus, it was a big thick fat spark...so I think the problem is caused by a weak spark, do you agree? Should I buy a new coil? and how does the spark plug wire connect in the coil, the person connected by a sheetrock screw, and that doesnt look right.

Thanks for the help guys

yeah my spark plug wire (that is the thing that connects to the back of the spark plug right?) is broke at the connecting points. And my Puch doesn't idle, so i think that the problem is the spark. (My puch's spark is really small too.)

Well, the wire is supposed to go on this little spike thing that comes out of the coil at that point, kind of impaling the wire, see.

If that piece has broken off, yeah, I think I would reccommend a new coil...cause you'll play merry hell hookin it up any other way.

Tomos for some reason do not like to start on a mildly warm engine...warmed up fully/hot, sure....cold, yeah - but just a bit warm and they're a right bitch to start, most of em.

I'd clean the carb, the points, reset the points and replace the coil...then it should run like a top....and a new plug wouldn't hurt matters any either.

Re: Ree...Tomos help again

thanks but Im pretty sure its a CDI coil, can i look on the coil to see because I didnt see any points in the magento

Re: Ree...Tomos help again

there IS sorta a lil screw thing inside the CDI that grabs the inside of the wire, if thats what you mean, its ok, its supposed to be like that. you may need to replace your spark plug cap (definitely replace your spark plug, their cheap). theres no actual SCREW inside the hole, just a lil pointy screw-like threaded well...point, that grabs the wire on the inside and holds it there. the wire actually screws into that hole in the CDI unit (coil). if that still dosent work, try getting a new spark plug wire and cap from a motorcycle shop or auto parts store, that STILL dosent help, get a new CDI unit from www.themopedjunkyard.com.

if the CDI is the IDM brand, replace the whole thing (cdi unit and both flywheel coils), those were known to fail (just ask ree!) if its an Iskra, just get a new cdi box if the above methods dont help.

It's simple to tell if it's CDI or not.

The CDI "Box" is just that, an odd looking box, whereas most coils are round, or round with a metal block around them.

The Bullet rarely used a CDI, so it's probably points, which would be under the flywheel on the left side.
