CIA/Bomb Squad investigate MY moped

today Laura Bush is in town (cincinnati, ohio). i work in a large office building where she happened to be staying. the place was swarming with CIA agents all day, and roads were closed, etc..

i came out from work to go home to find 6 CIA agents and 2 Bomb Squad agents investigating my moped. they had the seat lifted up (its a grande, btw) and were checking out my bicycle sized "fix-a-flat" canister. also they were looking around inside the right side cover and poking my tires with some sort of apparatus.

i walked up to the crowd and asked if i could help any of them. they said a passerby voiced her concern about the bomb decal on my headlight. so, they were treating my moped as though it were a bomb. i explained that the bomb on the headlight was just a sticker and posed no real threat.

the agents were very nice though.. and understanding. after questioning me my entire life story (well.. name, address, d.o.b,, etc) that he already knew.. one of the agents informed me that i had a traffic habius on my moped for some reason and suggested i be careful so i dont get pulled over and find out what its about...

..i dont remember ever getting any parking tickets on it, though. maybe ill call and find out what thats all about.

Re: CIA/Bomb Squad investigate MY moped

Casey---- Neat story-- a sign of the times I guess.

WTF is a "traffic habius" like you inferred, a parking ticket?

You'd obviously know if you'd got a moving violation--!

lol, do a whole bomb search on a moped because it has a bomb sticker on it.

Last year, here in Greenville, SC, a guy on a moped was pulled over riding on the interstate (illegal). He shot the policeman, who died a few days later. They caught up with him and his girlfriend in a stolen truck in the next county...

Right around that (or shortly after), I was riding home from work on a Saturday afternoon on my loaded out QT50 (see pics in Photos section). It was cold that day, so I was wearing my army coat and black wool watch cap. I pulled off of the road at a traffic light to light a cigarette (most of my 11 mile commute is 6 lane highway between towns)... I was listening to the radio on headphones, and didn't see or hear the cop who pulled up behind me, I just caught him in my periphal vision as he walked up to me.

He asked me for my ID, so I shut the bike off and put it up on the stand and handed it to him. He went back to the cruiser and ran my ID, which took a couple of minutes. I sat on my bike and smoked till he came back. He handed me my ID and said I could go.

I asked him why he pulled me over... "You look like someone we're looking for," he said.

Jeez. What an asshole.

Re: CIA/Bomb Squad investigate MY moped

They ran a VIN or Plate check and maybe the previous owner had a ticket he ignored.

Sure they weren't Secret Service instead of CIA?

Mwa hahahahah

Reeperette /

That's just ferkin funny.

Just fer shits and giggles, I woulda tried to sell it to them.

"Well, you seem so interested, wanna take her for a spin, make me an offer?"

-R

You know...

Reeperette /

That's not a half-bad idea...give the Agents on short-area patrols like that mopeds to use...they fit anywhere, are convenient, economical, and fairly reliable.

It would also increase response time quite a bit.

Worth a mention to em, anyhow.

Re: CIA/Bomb Squad investigate MY moped

hey man

i drive for a limo company and get pulled over all the time.

dont give the nice policeman your ID before you ask him

why you were pulled over.......he has to have probable cause.

if he cant give you a reason then dont offer him your

license and ask to see his shift sergeant immediately.

he will probably leave......dont offer your ID until there

is a reason to.....

Re: You know...

I bet it was the secret service Zip.

Re: CIA/Bomb Squad investigate MY moped

yeah, youre probably right.. secret service it is, then...

i still havent called to find out about the habius.

i do have new plates on it, and the vin number plate is hidden (in case it is stolen they wont be able to see the vin to remove it.. quick thinking on my part, huh? haha..)

they said the violation was under THAT plate number and my name. i clarified several times that it WAS NOT for my car, but definitely for the moped. very strange.

hey bill.. did you ever get that seat? is it in good enough shape?

Re: You know...

hah, thats rad.. one time when my friend adam and i got pulled over (he rides a vespa p200 scoot), the one cop was running my license for not wearing a helmet (even after i informed him that it was not required.. he hated the fact that i was right).. another cop came up on a bike and was asking us about our rides. he said he is going to tell the force to get them mopeds instead of bicycles..

so while he was being all chummy with us and laughing and talking about the moped he used to have when he was a kid.. the other cop came back, handed me my license and got back into his cruiser without a word. :)

TBS is "the bomb"

Yeah I thought about putting a sticker on my Puch that says "this moped is a pipe bomb", a play on a band reference, but I thought it might be a bad idea for similar reasons...

Re: CIA/Bomb Squad investigate MY moped

Got the seat, good shape,

thanks

Casey,

It was your moped that exploded into flames in a supermarket right?

Re: TBS is "the bomb"

im going to put one on mine that says "this moped is napalm".

Re: TBS is "the bomb"

david, what's your problem w/ cops? you're lucky that cop didn't give you a ticket for listening on headphones (usually illegal in such a situation).

a police officer was killed (maybe someone that other cop knew personally?) by someone on a moped ... you describe yourself as looking suspicious ... and are upset that a cop pulled you over and didn't give you a ticket? you lost maybe a few minutes. get over it.

btw ... i think htat people checking out a moped due to a sticker is really quite funny.

I'm afraid that I am going to have to say that the bomb sticker is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life... And I have seen a monkey drive a moped up to my school and beat the shit out of one of my most evil enemies. The monkey then began to sing and dance. My princeble called the cops on the monkey, but the monkey made his getaway on the moped. Oh and while riding off into the wild wild blue he gave the cops the finger. That is all.

I had a sticker on my sachs for a while that said "this bike is a pipe bomb" from that band. Ah how i miss the sachs eagle 2.

Re: CIA/Bomb Squad investigate MY moped

david f martin /

Miguel, I shouldn't have said that the cop was an asshole for pulling me over, especially after what had happened. I was just being facetious...

BUT

I have a friend who is a county cop, and an asshole. I tend to overlook character flaws unless they directly affect me personally...

He takes great pleasure in pulling folks over and playing head games with them and writing tickets. If he gets to kick someone's ass, he's had a really great day (the following day isn't so hot, because of the extra paperwork). To him, being a cop is a sport, we're just vermin, and he's got the gun.

I've worked with cops before (plumbing and electrical, lately fixing thier personal cars), my son often teaches martial arts to law enforcement, and my daughter spent last summer working for the PD, indexing old paper files onto a new computer system. We know lots of cops. Lots of them are assholes. I think folks who are naturally assholes tend to gravitate towards law enforcement.

Anyways, back to the original thread... When I saw Casey's bomb sticker, my first thought was, "Anarchist". Didn't someone fairly recently post a link to a news article where a terrorist might use a moped as a bomb?

That is a pretty cool sticker, though.

david

Personally i think assholes are drawn twoards law enforcement becuase of the power it gives them. Now i really dont want to badmouth cops, but I have seen asshole cops, and really cool cops. Even a cool police officer will never let u get away with criminal activities (unless hes a corrupt fuck) but thats becuase it is his job. Hes not going to get fired becuase of your stupid ass. But their are many police officers that are really cool ppl. I think it all matters how their day went. I mean shit if i was a cop and my girl just dumped me id fucking bust a bunch of speeders and ruin as many ppl's lives as i could. But if i just got laid on the other hand, maybe I would let everyone off with a warning that day :-)

Re: CIA/Bomb Squad investigate MY moped

arent you only 14?

Re: CIA/Bomb Squad investigate MY moped

you should have told him you were a moped army member...

and did a funny salute to him... now that would have been awesome

Re: CIA/Bomb Squad investigate MY moped

yes but if i were a law enforecment officer I would be older wouldnt I?

Re: CIA/Bomb Squad investigate MY moped

Let's me get this right. A suspected MURDERER is out on the loose and you're riding a vehicle similar to the one the MURDERER was riding. All you had to endure was a couple minute stop.

But the cop is an asshole because he's just doing his job. I'm some nationalist nazi or anything. I'm actually even a member of the ACLU. But I don't think the officer was doing anything unreasonable. Just his job. Just trying to keep his bills paid, kids fed, etc. Just like the rest of us. Except we're lucky enough not to get called assholes all the time.

Re: CIA/Bomb Squad investigate MY moped

GK,

I generally can't stand cops. I think assholes tend to gravitate towards being cops because of the power it gives them. Being an asshole may have something to do with one being a cop, but being a cop does not necessarily make one an asshole, however.

I agree with you completely in this situation. He was doing his job and seemed to do it relatively professionally.

P.S. I can't stand the ACLU, either. What started out as a noble, absolutely necessary organization has turned into a left-wing organization far more interested in a politically correct agenda than in the rights of all Americans. They've forgotten the definition of personal liberties and now confuse them with entitlements.

From my experience the police are like any other human group - some are good folks, some do a 9 to 5 job, and some are pure waste of air. The problem with any group is we tend to notice (and remember, and retell the story of) the ones who are annoying, petty, horrible. It's not very entertaining to tell someone "I got pulled over today... he was very polite and let me off with a warning!" after all :)

Better not to lump em into a group - next thing you know someone will be saying all mopders are suicidal, have black lung disease from assorted auto fumes, and have an irrational fear of an SUV being behind them at all times.... oh wait... thats all true....

They caught this guy the same day he shot the policeman (he was wounded by police fire and taken to a hospital under arrest), so it's not like they were out looking for a murder suspect.

I don't know if they actually were looking for someone who looked like me, or if this cop was just using the latest news as an excuse to hassle me.

Not all cops are assholes. A lot of them are, though. Yes, assholes do have families to support and jobs to perform and bills to pay. Doesn't change the fact that they are still assholes, though.
