Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

Does anyone know how I can do this? The number is 4239095. Idle curiosity- have been breathing life back into it her and would be nice to know her age. Seems likely she was registered in the UK- I have no V5 tho. Thanks! Guy

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

clamp style bars suggests a 78+ model

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

it should say a date right on that black tag...

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

Usually there is no date on the black tag, and all the records of the production numbers and their correspondence to production date are long gone acording to the puch museum in Graz.

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

All 5 of my Puchs have the date of manufacture stamped on the black ID tag.

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

All tags i've ever seen looked like this, the construction date or 'baujahr' is never stamped in

20150706_170438.jpg

but it might be that they had to stamp them in for US import.

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

Most of the US bikes have a date stamped on them unless of course they were imported from another country. I don't believe bikes from Canada have dates stamped on the vin plate. I haven't seen any frames from europe (that I know of), but depending on where in europe they were sold, I find it completely plausible that a lot of bikes didn't have a MFG. date stamped on them.

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

Canadian Bombardier Puchs had a date stamped on tag.

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

US tags have the manufacturing date on them:

Maybe it's just the old ones that didn't have a date in Canada? The ones I've seen without dates were the old style frame that had the plug style gas cap instead of the newer twist-lock style caps. I was told they were early 70's ('71-'73?) bikes.

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

My 1975 Bombardier with plug style gas cap has a year stamp.

is there a number stamped on the frame on the right swingarm? should be 7 numbers and some letters.

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

A lot of the times rims have a date stamped into them as well... Assuming you have the original rims on it.

Not all puchs are made in Austria. Early generation puch red magnum Xks were assembled by derbi in Spain

I'm trying to find the model number and year of my puch. The manufacture date is March of 78. Would that make it a 78? I know that logic doesn't work on cars. The serial number is a 530 739. It is 1.5 horsepower and a za50. It has K star on it. And also 0379 is stamp below the seat.

This is the best I could do at the moment for a picture

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

Its a 78, or maybe not, it doesn't really matter.

Your bike originally started out as a 1978 maxi sport MKII but it’s been modded/molested somewhat,

This is mine, I took off the snowflake mag wheels and the original engine off and kept them in storage because the bike only had a few hundred miles on it, I put on spoke wheels that had better gearing options and I put a 1986 white cobra black cover za50 performance build engine on it but otherwise you could see with the seat, rack, fender and side cover design with your bike should’ve looked like:

if I were you I would not run it without a front fender or front fork stabilizer because it’s dangerous and you could lose control,

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

I’ve never seen a Maxi N in that color. Someone did a real nice job with the stock paint color and decals.

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

I thought the Maxi N is a Puch Maxi with no rear springs.

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

Oh i was still looking at Overpriced Parts' sweet Maxi.

Yep the other is the N model.

Those turn signals are aftermarket, right?

I lioked for a Maxi Sport with turn signals but it didn't look like any had them.

Here can you find a list of all Puch mopeds, serial numbers and year of building.

The list is definitely not all puch mopeds, there’s no magnum XK, MKII, magnum II models,

There’s no fancy Maxi models Like Newport, sport, sport MKII, maxiluxe etc, no za50 models no newer than 1980 Maxi models and none that have 17 digit vin,

No 1984-1986 Maxi And cobra moped (euro cobra motorcycles is different) models, some numbers don’t correspond to the year maxis in USA so that list is almost completely bunk for the USA so Probably just European bikes

Re: Finding out PUCH MAXI age from serial/frame number

That list is also garbage for European Maxi's, i've had dozens and none had numbers that were on the list.

Last week we did find out the Puch MV50 list is correct though.
