pulling a PA50 variator

.........how are you guys pulling the variator ......it seems to me you need a ...tool....to hold the notches on the inner spool....so it cant turn........or .....a big chanel-lock on the outer spool...that seems like it would put alot of pressure on the rollers.............a thin vice grip .........in between the two spools......would that score it to much.........any tips?...............

Here's my trick:

1) Remove the belt.

2) Remove the small inner nut (the one located under the rubber plug) from the crankshaft (it holds on the inner half of the variator). Leave the large nut in place!

3) Site on the ground, put your feet against the moped to balance it and put your hands on the outer sheave (pulley half) of the variator and give it a couple of tugs. You shouldn't have to pull too hard.

4) The entire variator should pop right off.

Good luck!

Chris.
