An Idea (Rusty gas tank)

Simon Belmont /

Hey guys, some mopeds that have gas tank embedded into the frame and have rust in the tank, may not be so easy to remove all of it and if the tank is not sealed the rust can form again, so I've had this idea - what if you have a rust free brand new gas tank (such as this one)

strapped above your frame with ratchet tie-downs, would that work?

Re: An Idea (Rusty gas tank)

Sure. You could also just strap a gas can and hose on, too...

Either would look like shit, but maybe work...

You can attach petcock to a gas can?

ive seen snow blower gas tanks strapped to the back rack on a few maxis.

Re: An Idea (Rusty gas tank)

There are many external tank options that would work. The main issue is that since the tank is part of the frame, any rust damage can compromise the strength of the frame.

There is no reason you cannot remove all the rust in a frame tank and no reason you cannot line it. Use Red Kote or Northern Industries Gas tank liner. You just have to be more creative in moving the bike around.

lawn mower gas tank works just put a fuel valve shut off on the fuel line and its a cheap fix.
