restoration process

Getting ready to tear my vespa apart and was wondering what sort of process yall have used to restore your frames? Not really more than surface rust. I figure I will have to sand that off but do I need to sand it ALL to bare metal? And if so, what sort of products do you recommend? Rust reformer? Fillable primer? Thanks for your input!

To me, it depends is if the bike is going to be parked outside a lot. If yes: por15, if no: a "rust fighting" primer covered by a sandable primer.

Re: restoration process

No, it's better not to take it to bare metal, except where the rust is.

Exactly, you'll never be able to get paint to stick to bare metal better than the factory.

Re: restoration process

Thanks! That makes sense! My husband built a racing mower bout a yr ago and took to bare metal and paint already chipping off!
