Anyone ever paint a vinyl seat?

I just got a bike with a horribly discolored vinyl/pleather seat.

I am sure at the time getting a white vinyl seat sounded like a good idea but it seems either the sun or some sort of chemical reaction turned a very white seat very brown.

Anyone ever try those paints made specifically for vinyl?

Not sure if they are meant for pliable vinyl or just like dashboards and such.

I have read reviews of people using them on like boat seats and they seem to be mostly positive, but no one reporting on like a, "one year later" review.

I painted a purple KLR250 seat black...

No problem with the vinyl spray on stuff at autozone.

The seat on my Honda Elite was blue and I painted it with Krylon brown camo several years ago when I built it into this army bike .

It looks good and never had any problem .

Re: Anyone ever paint a vinyl seat?

The names and emblems on seats are painted on and last as long as the material.

Re: Anyone ever paint a vinyl seat?

painted the rear seats of a Corvair I use to own. They looked great for several years.

Re: Anyone ever paint a vinyl seat?

I sprayed white upholstry paint from napa on my seat and a coat of silicone on top. Looked great for about 6 months and then started to wear off, it's been over a year now and it's still mostly white but black definitely shows through where I straddle it

^ i LOVE that bike! :)

Re: Anyone ever paint a vinyl seat?

SEM vinyl dye. Did a car interior with it and it never wore off the door panels after over a year of elbows out the window in Florida heat.

Black upholstery paint for cars works fine.

Re: Anyone ever paint a vinyl seat?

Go watch the latest hot rod garage with the dudes from roadkill. The duplicolor minute covers some vinyl dyes by duplicolor and they look like they work pretty great!

They are screen printed on with a heat set plastisol ink. Not paint.

Re: Anyone ever paint a vinyl seat?

grab a can of vinyl prep, adhesion promoter, & vinyl dye.

make sure the seat is clean and take your time, several light coats vs. 2 or 3 heavy ones.

did the dash and door panels on my old Galaxie and it looked badass.
