Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

Now where to find a stock 4hp moped ?

No 4 HP mopeds were ever made so it's a stupid .

No engine kits are made with exactly with 4 hp either.

So Tomos is going to start making 4 HP mopeds all of a sudden ?

No but I bet china is gearing up to make 4HP scooters as we speak

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

wow, a 4 hp Chinese engine that explodes every 30 days. that's gonna be awesome.

I been in the ruckus scene for awhile and from my experience these Chinese scooter engines like the GY6 are very reliable and parts are cheap and plentiful. On the other hand, body parts and electronics on them are garbage and break often. (edited)

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

It's good. I read the link. They have realized that peds and scoots might be safer if they can keep up with traffic.

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

you guys aren't getting it, this has nothing to do with mopeds, it is for electric bikes- mopeds are included because electric bikes and mopeds are defined by the part of the vehicle code in CA, sort of.

I guess someone realized that electric bikes would sort of work if you had 3,000 watts to play with instead of 1,500 (or 1,000 for the no plate/license requirement- see? the tiered licensing system didn't really work)

scooters are not even close to mopeds is CA, no pedals = motorcycle

it doesn't change anything for mopeds because nobody gives a shit even now

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

Scoot Networks are the folks that helped push for the change. http://www.xconomy.com/san-francisco/2013/11/26/scoot-networks-lands-1779659-new-funding-round/ - Follow the money!

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

briggs-n-stratton with tire rub brakes. the Shriners are loving this!

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

That scoot networks thing is interesting. I never knew such a thing existed. It would be worthless here with only a 10-15mph range, but in a city like SF I guess it would be enough.

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

"...we need to make sure all road users feel safe.”

Not 'are safe' but "feel safe." They may as well say it's for the fucking children or some other pablum sound-bite malarkey as much sense as that statement makes. Emotional based gibberjabber.

It's pretty obvious that the entire purpose of this is to make some investment group a lot of fast money (by bribing politicians to change the law so they in turn will look good to the morons they leech off of,) transfer over some bad debt from former scams to leverage a fresh influx of cash from greedy saps into a get rich quick scheme set up to import some cheap chinee bullshit. ("Transaction Amount involves $724,501.94 of new cash investment and $1,055,157.95 via conversion of indebtedness. Proceeds purposes were not disclosed.")

And they will take advantage of a bunch of clueless urbanite tree-hugging libtard dumbfucks that will use and operate this touchy-feely save the earth horseshit for them so the initial investors don't actually get their hands dirty running a business.

All the while they get to track the users comings and goings electronically, process the payments virtually using god knows what sort of money laundering shell game, analyze the demographics of the chumps and their financial info, and most likely package and sell all of it in a pump and dump at an inflated amount before jumping ship and rolling over the profits into another scam.

Thus gets made a retarded wad of cash for those on top of the pyramid, leaving a bunch of plastic toilets scattered around everywhere, while late investors, personnel, and customer dupes rub their sore asses wondering how they got fucked so deep and hard.

And the politicians will get reelected because they provided jobs (and then welfare handouts to all those who got reamed in the scam) as they saved the earth from man-bear-pig.

I shall dyno a stock Tomos, no way that is only 2HP.

Stock flat reeds are more then 2HP

Sachs D cylinders were like 2.7HP?

Yes a tad more then 2 hp but not 4hp

Ya my new revival A55 kick start feels more like 2.75-3hp

I could only see, after reading all of that,is the horse power would be raised.

Not the watts or speed. If you see where the watts or speed increase, show me

What Jerry Brown is telling the people is not backed up in the bill.

The horsepower would be in part for 4 cycle engines that require 2 times the horse power as a 2 cycle engine. But for 2 cycle engines to go to four horse power, that engine will have some power.

How many cc's does it take to make four horse power on a 2 cycle engine ?

spanish sis sach d cyl 4 hp

some casal's, some puch's and tommi with altered gearings. it is measured at rear wheel remember? once you start kitting stuff and re gearing idk wha are the hp ratings on various kits?

it mabe the treats porno tape made it's way to the state legislature, they remember when they made the hot tub famous,

wha does arnie think? i would love an interveiw of him saying "mopeds are good when they are safe....thanks treats & 77 youse guys changed my life...i woul love yous so hard, you would need a heath aide for two weeks..haa haa haa."

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

vc 406(a) Watts doubled too, from 1491W to 2982W. 30mph max speed remains unchanged.

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

Four horsepower from a four stroke is equal to four horsepower from a two stroke, not sure exactly what you're trying to say. Typically two stroke engines make more power per cc, at the cost of a narrower power-band.

23cc's would get you 4-8hp from a well tuned two stroke. A 50cc engine is good for about 25hp in the real world.

I'd like to see the result! It would be interesting to run actual tests on various levels of modification.

Rob @t ATTN! Burrito /

why wouldn't the top speed have been increased to 35~45? streets with a 30 mph limit are few and far between. why stay 30 with double the hp? so strange.

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

Gotta keep a lid on things in all ways and forms. That too means none of your crazy thinking.

Uhh some of the guys over at Scoot Networks are pretty serious SF/Bay Area moped dudes. In fact one of them is planning to ride the upcoming 2014 Pinball run. It's not some evil scheme involving naughty politicians. It's actually pretty neat!

Calm down :)

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

Is that 4 HP at the rear wheel or at the crankshaft? Does China have mopeds or just scooters?

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

Every you go in SF is uphill downhill no level ground anywhere.

I think it's 4 hp at the right wrist, measured using the butt Dyno!

Re: Horsepower limit raised for Mopeds in California

Mercury marine has a 102cc 4HP motor.
