Wreck 15ft from driveway

My 18 year old son (Lil Dave, just graduated!) came by my house yesterday, and wanted to take my scooter for a spin...

He had ridden my QT50 a couple of times, but otherwise had no experience riding motorized 2-wheelers. I'd told him that the Elite was way faster than my old QT, and told him to test the brakes a few times before getting up speed. Even so, I was a little bit nervous about him riding it for the first time...

So, he drives up the length of the driveway (about 25 feet), and he just kept going faster and faster, got to the street and tried to make the turn and wiped out in the neighbors yard across the street. I ran over to make sure he was ok, hit the kill switch on the bike (which was making a grinding noise now, and leaking gas on the street)...

His brand new jeans were scuffed up on his left knee, and underneath, his knee was also scuffed up, but otherwise he's ok. Thank you, Jah!

He felt bad about wrecking my scoot, knowing it was my primary transportation, but I assured him I would straighten it out, I was just glad he wasn't hurt.

So, Lil Dave headed back home (had a graduation party to attend), and I got to work on the bike. The kick starter had gotten pushed in (snap ring was dislocated). Fixed that in about 30 minutes, then called Lil Dave on his cell and let him know that the bike was fixed, no problem.

This is a kid with a black belt, and had just gotten his nose pierced yesterday (9th piercing so far, I got to witness), so the scuffed knee shouldn't be that big of a deal to him. I'm just glad he didn't break a leg or something. That would really suck for graduation weekend.

Re: Wreck 15ft from driveway

Glad to hear it all worked out okay. Last fall I let my 18 year old son ride my Vespa and warned him about how slippery the fallen leaves can be. Two minutes after leaving he came back with a broken mirror, bent brake lever and a smashed headlight lens and casing. What you gonna do ? bruce

Did he suffer any damage himself?
