Based on my personal experience and the Moped Army posts I read, it seems that mopeders are at a higher risk of getting into some sort of conflict. Whether its old-timers, cops, thiefs, or "joe-public", there seems to be something about mopeds that bring pleasure and pain.
Is it the moped?

Actually, it's more along the lines of Ego.
Some folks in this world only feel good about themselves by crushing other people down, and the smaller, lighter moped is an obvious target, not to mention one that cannot easily flee.
Because they are unable, and in many cases, unwilling, to flee - there's a greater possibility of conflict, yes.
As to vandalism or theivery, that's based on younger folks who jealously covet anyone ELSE having something "neat" that they do not have, and if they cannot easily take it from them, will attempt to damage it so that nobody has it.
As fer mischief, I think the discipline of keeping a moped fully operational and in good tune teaches a respect of said equipment, and definately being on the road likewise teaches respect of the road and defensive driving - so as a whole they're more disciplined, coolheaded, and safer, even when operating a car.
As fer a patron saint, I wouldn't know, but I'd nominate Fred if ya backed me into a corner on it, heh.

The conflict risk is greater when riding your ped in traffic, the person that's in a big hurry and is stuck in traffic behind a slow moving tractor-trailer will usually act quite differently when following a moped.
They can't see the truck driver to interact with, and tailgating has no effect at all, so they're stuck there, bitchin', cussing and banging on the steering wheel to no avail.
but the mopeder, well...
if you're not keeping up with traffic and you are in front of asshole like that, expect more of a risk of conflict.
all they see is a very small vehicle that's keeping them from getting to their destination a few seconds sooner.
And when traffic does stop, that's their opportunity to let you know that you are interfering with their sorry-ass life's schedule.
Cursing and hand gestures won't hurt you, but a small nudge of a car bumper can fuck you up pretty bad. You can be defiant and hold your position or let the dickhead go by.
That's a situation/ judgement call on you.
That's where the patron saint/mischeif spirit comes in.

i useally opt for standing my ground if the person is being an ass , if your gonna be an ass to me im gonna be an ass to you simple as that
ha, basically more true every year ... yeah, driving brings out the true nature of our people.... and mopeds are easy targets for the frustration they feel with their miserable little no-nothing lives.
